A traffic circle or "roundabout" is a great solution for many moderately traversed intersections like Claiborne/Broadlands The problem is no one bothers to educate the public about how to use them. Drivers come upon them and don't know what to do.
    Roundabouts have two great features.
    1. Traffic keeps moving. You don't have to wait for the light when there is no opposing traffic.
    2. Drivers are forced to slow down in order to navigate the circle. You won't have people speeding up to beat the light. If there is an accident it's at 20 mph instead of 50.
The down side is they aren't very pedestrian friendly.
