My husband has several boxes of his old Marine uniforms. He's still in the Individual Ready Reserves, but as I joke, if he gets called up they must be getting desperate. Not to mention, as much as he would like to think so, these uniforms would no longer fit him.

We'd keep one set of each type for memento type reasons but I would like to get rid of the rest. Understandably, he does not want to throw them away nor does he wish to donate them to any kind of thrift store because he does not like the idea of someone not treating them with respect.

Any ideas what we *can* do with them?

Well, if you choose to discard them, remove all military insignia first. Then again, many regulations prohibit anyone other than military personnel from wearing military issue uniforms so I'm not sure what you should do with them.

You can donate them to a military thrift store if they are still usable. I know a lot of people buy their uniforms second-hand.

Yes - a military thrift store is a great idea! The covers, coats and such get to be very expensive. I used to go to the military thrift store to reclaim buttons and striping for needed uniform repairs.

    The above and . . .

Donate to a high school drama department. that's what I did with Pop's uniforms.
Or - sell to a collector. Yes, folks collect these and will pay decent cash for them.

Go here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/ If you want to sell I have been a member there long enough that I can list tiems. Also - if you haven't mounted his awards and such in a case - let me know - I can help out there.

I hated to do it, but I had to burn mine. I was in during the period of time when we had to stencil our SSN on every uniform. No way I was letting that get around!!

We both like the idea of donating to a high school drama department. I think we'll try calling a couple and checking it out.
