with a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 768k RAM/40 GB HD, and Windows XP??? It works fine but would you use it as a doorstop? do you think it has any useful purpose? Donate it, sell it, recycle it? I hate to just throw it away. Thanks for any feedback.

You could always Freecycle it! There are always people looking for random things and it feels better to know my "junk" is going to some sort of use.

Give it to your kid? Or someone else's kid to learn on?

Install Linux on it and use it to explore a new operating system. Linux doesn't require the horsepower that Windows does so an older machine can run it quite successfully.

Whatever you do with it, make sure you pull the hard drive before it leaves your house! Restoring data is easy, even if you format it first........

i work for a non profit that could use it. it is a club for young adults with life long disabilities. we use laptops to put on their wheelchair trays. with special adaptations they can type letters to the soliders, email and even use facebook. pm me if you still have it and want a tax write off.

Thanks everyone for such great suggestions! I always get good feedback on this forum. I would love to learn Linux but don't feel I have the time and mjbenteler your non-profit sounds really good. I'll PM you if we decide to go in that direction but I'm not the only one who has a say in this so I'm not sure what we're going to do yet. Thanks again!
