Well OK, so it's not exactly in the Broadlands... But does anyone know what is currently being built near the Home Depot? From the Greenway I see lots of land being cleared and I'm curious as to what's going there.

I got a look at the sign on the Home Depot side. It says Medical office suites.

I have "heard" that there is another grocery store coming. Possibly another Food Lion. If true, yuck!

I heard Target at one point. That sounds highly unlikely, tho.

I doubt it's a Target. There is a Super Target opening in Leesburg next to Kohl's soon.

If by Home Depot they are even considering another Food Lion, we ought to organize a massive letter writing campaign and picket the store! Just kidding about picketing, but I doubt if even Food Lion would build another one so close to an existing store.

They wouldn't keep both open, they'd close the older one...like what WalMart did with the Wegmans location when they moved to Sterling.

And if thats the case, why aren't we picketing Starbucks and Subway for opening new locations so close to each other?

What's the beef with Food Lion? If you don't like it.. don't go in.

Do you think it attracts 'low lifes' or something??

They are dirty with expired food for sale. I've called the Health Dept. many times about them.

Of course they are not as bad as the local Shoppers Food Warehouse in terms of filth. The floors are so grimy it leads me to believe they only wash them once a month.

I'm also curious why you bother to go back to Food Lion and Shoppers if they are dirty and you "called the Health Dept. many times about them"? I don't have a beef with either one or praise for either one but if I found the problems you described more than twice, I wouldn't go back for more of the same...

The only thing I would say is that I haven't noticed any of the problems you mentioned -- not that they might not exist, I just haven't noticed them.

I don't buy food items at those stores. Only stuff like paper plates or trashbags when I'm running low and don't want to run to Costco to buy 10,000 napkins or something.

    Back to the original topic...

In the Loudoun section of Sunday's paper - "What's Going Where in Loudoun County" - there is (yet another) Exxon Mobil station proposed for the property at Ryan Road/Shellhorn Road. That was all that was listed for this particular area.

I read in the paper a week or two ago that another Giant was going to go in the shopping area near the Home Depot.
Another grocer is talking to Van Metre about building one in Broadlands.

There are going to be too many supermarkets in the area. With all of the ones we have now plus the proposed ones like vacliff just mentioned and Harris Teeter coming to Ashbrook and Brambleton, there are just way too many. Besides, everybody goes to Wegmans. Some will not survive and I am afraid one of them might be Safeway. I don't see too many people at Safeway.
