Visited today typical Fast Food location. Unfortunately, the only workers they can find are immigrants who are willing to work. Usual Opening Day jitters and issues, drive through orders wrong, instead of asking the person in the line to park and they'd bring out the fixed sandwiches, the line waited another 4 minutes.

My order was not ready at the window. Asked for medium and Large drinks, only the medium was ready, the large was filled but when I got home it was only 4/5ths full. Asked for a #2 combo, double with cheese, got a triple with cheese instead.

It will improve, but they really need people who understand and/or read English at the drive-thru to prevent issues like this.

FWIW ... when I visited Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, I was able to order and not have a problem with anything. Amazingly, they actually have high-school kids behind the counter.

Tu sabes Espanol? Just kidding. One good thing about the immigrants [besides the great work ethic for low pay that teenagers here will never take] is that when you go to Mexico it feels like home. [}:)]

At least they are willing to work - instead of draining other resources. Neil it sounds like you made out like a champ with your order - the triple is a whole lot of meat.

I visited the Wendy's and found it rather nice. Although I got the wrong drink, other than that, excellent (for fast food).

Oh I agree, like most immigrants, they're hard working, trying to get their families into the upper class. I'm a second generation American, my grandparents came over from Italy, and raised their kids while trying to get by.

The problem at fast food places is, you need people who understand enough english, and can read enough english, at least enough to know the difference between the word 'double' and 'triple'; on the drive thru.

Yeah, I made out, but I wonder if someone got my burger instead, they lost out.

Anybody else notice how ridiculously small the Wendy's parking lot is?

Totally ... however, I believe the pad next to it will add parking spaces when its developed. If you look at the map found in the more restaurants topic, it shows some additional parking along the peripheries.

Now if they could get some additional employees who could make the correct change...

The restaurant only seats 60...I counted chairs...so a bigger parking lot may not be a great idea...unless like me you are from NYC and accustomed to standing up to eat your lunch

Went there again tonight about 6 o'clock. The entire driving/parking area was a disaster.
Cars all the way around the building for the drivethrough, cars trying to get in and out of the parking spots blocked by the cars waiting for the drivethrough, couldn't get around the cars waiting because they all line up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ENTIRE DRIVING AREA!!!!

    I douobt I'll go back.

Give it time it may slow down ... then again, as has been said its pent up demand! For too long we've been stuck with McDonald's, KFC/Taco Bell, and the lone Burger King in the Village.

I'm just glad that I can swing by at 10pm with a case of munchies and get right through!!

I have a question. Is there 'restaurant etiquette' that we should observe here or is it just 'every man for himself'? I went to Wendy's on Saturday with my wife and daughter and we queued for about 10 minutes or so while waiting to be served (we'd decided to eat in). The restaurant was packed but we figured that by the time we had our food there would be a table, but.... Every time a family came in behind us, one person would get in the queue (sorry - line!) and the otehr 4 or 5 people would go and take an empty table! so, the net of all this was that most of the tables were taken up by people who weren;t going to get their food for 10-15 minutes, while the people that had stood in line had nowhere to sit! We had to take our food home - no big deal, but it seems more than a little selfish. Aim I being too ol-fashioned expecting people to wait their turn as we did, or should I get out there and start shoulder-charging people for a seat? :)

Old fashioned has nothing to do with it. Your way would mean there are 10 minutes worth of families waiting in the way of the door.

Welcome to the 'privilaged' generation. I have a perfect right to take up a table for 10 minutes waiting for my food, even though your's is served and ready to eat.

In other words, every man for themselves.

FWIW .. I have no problem with people getting a table when the place is not busy, 1 or 2 people in line, etc. But if there's long wait line, and the place is packed to where you're waiting for someone to finish in order to sit down; then yes, they should wait their turn either in line, or in at the pick-up area.

There used to be a common courtesy where people would eat their fast food, then get up when the place is busy to make way for the people just coming off the line. I still see it outside of this area, but in the DC area itself it has fallen by the wayside. Here, people will have finished their food, taken the wrapping to the trash container, but then stop by the soda machine, fill their drink, then sit down to gab a while longer. No matter there are people with hot food standing looking for a place to sit.

It was a courtesy learned in the school cafeterias and/or at the mess hall if they served in the military. Since many do not serve in the military any more, they forget the lessons learned in school: sit down, eat, clean up your area, dump your trash, head to the school playground to make room for the next class.

Thanks for setting me straight. If drrotax is right it looks like I should start sharpening my elbows! :) There is - just - enough space there that the people not in line can wait out of the way, and I also wouldn't have a problem with people going straight to the table when things are relatively quiet.

Wendy's have made the situation bad - which I find usually brings out the worst in people - at this site because the food prep part of the restaurant appears to be considerably bigger than the seating area!! Presumably it was expensive real-estate so they wanted to maximise their ROI by primarily catering for drive-through (excuse my spelling, the Brit part of me hasn't properly acclimatised yet).

Anyhow, I will continue on in my old-fogey way, and we will bring up our daughter accordingly (my wife is American and she feels similarly to me). I leave the ultra-competitive stuff on the sports field, acting like that every waking moment is rather tiresome. :)

So, if you see someone waiting patiently for a seat as you pass it will probably be us! I thought I heard that you are moving Neilz, if so I hope it isn't far as we'll need someone to chat to as we wait in line!

The solution, this county and especially this area is starved for fast food so they need to build them as fast as they can so there is not a murder when people go at it for a table. [}:)] Geez I thought we were having problems with the lights not being installed fast enough. The fast food wars look to make all that look tame. :D

THe price we pay for affluence are we all getting a little too spoiled around here. Maybe the parents of some of those lazy kids that are causing trouble around here put them to work at our local fast food places etc if they don't like our harding working immigrants doing it.

All I know is my parents did not give me a car or anything, except pay for college, I worked for everything else and as much as I hated that back then I really appreciate what they were doing for me now.

Believe me, my parents could of well afford to give me what I wanted and they smartly gave me what I needed.

I don't get it, people complain about these hard immigrants yet I don't see many of these people make their kids work at these places in place. That just makes me sick hearing people complain about hard working people yet some of these people have their kids running around causing all kinds of trouble and they probably don't even know it's their kids. Oh well what can you do!!

Lee I agree 100%. My 15 year old Freshman son works at Wendy's. He started training the first week in December at the Wendy's in Cascades. He works every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, usually until 9 P.M.
Per him, he is pretty much the only "non immigrant" worker there. (I better see his spanish grade come up):D He is also on the High school wrestling team, The honor roll, and plays "house" league basketball every Sunday afternoon. I am only saying this because I see a lot of criticism about High School kids not working on this board. Even with his otherwise full schedule, he is expected to work. He is saving for a car, because he knows that he will receive not one cent toward it from me, when the time comes. Even if I was very wealthy, he still wouldn't. I refuse to let him reach 30 years old and have deer in the head lights because he can't take care of himself. Is he perfect? No way. Will he one day wreck his car, or get into some other trouble with the law? Probably. But I can tell you that at 15 years old, he is not out roaming the streets at 1 A.M. in Broadlands causing property damage, as mentioned in another post. If parents are letting their 15 year old kids out roaming the neighborhood at 1 A.M. they need to have their heads examined. If they are sneaking out, (Which I'm not so sure how this could happen), then they need to stop it.

Dad4 we need more parents like you. Sounds like your son is on the way to be a productive person who is going to add society and also enrich his own life. I worked construction when I was his age in Dallas Texas and still don't speak Spanish very well and I wish I did. At least my two boys do. Keep up the good work with your kids.

honestly I don't recall the last time I was in a FF place and there wasn't a place to sit. (but obviously I haven't been in a place this popular :D ) I'd consider it fine to sit while waiting for food.. as someone else said, its too packed near the counter anyways.

People should be able to enjoy food, and not have to run out either. If the place is busy.. well that's part of the decision on if you want to sit down or take-out :)
