OK, I post quite a bit here, but try not to rant to much b/c I respect everyones opinion and beliefs.

With that said...I am in the townhouses in SW...my neighbor with a single car garage decides to park on the grass between our houses (granted it would be his grass).

It seems to me that this should be against HOA rules to park on the grass between townhouses with your car....

    Someone please advise.

points of clarification... it is his grass? How large a strip of grass? Is the grass dead or otherwise looking like heck?

This is a tough one and from a third party point of view, this might really depend upon your relationship with the neighbor... if you can talk to them and reason with them about maybe not doing this, then that seems like the way to go. But is this really the type of thing to "complain" about?

The grass is enough for them to park on (about the size of a car)...I'll probably keep quite until the grass starts to get damaged...they park there (my guess) b/c the guest parking gets filled up faster now and they don't want to park on the main road. it just looks crummy to have a car parked on the grass in my opinion.

Is this a daily thing of parking on the grass? I can imagine that does look crummy and I would not want it on my street.
I would think that would not be permitted? Why does he not use the driveway?

Report it to the HOA office. Pretty sure this is a violation.

It is a violation. Next thing you know there will be cement blocks in place of where the tires should be:rolleyes:

DEFINITELY a violation, if I remember right, the Broadlands Covenants (which everyone had to agree to) specifically mentions the proper place to park vehicles, and on the grass or lawn is not one of them.

Just walk up to the owner of the vehicle and speak your mind. In my opinion the "car in the lawn" stunt this homeowner is pulling is wrong? If you feel its wrong even if it's not a violation of the hoa, he should understand that his car should be parked somewhere else if you give him reason.

I live in a single family on a cul-du-sac. I have several neighbors with more than 2 vehicles that park at least one of the their cars on the street everyday. Mind you we all have 2 car garages and driveways that can fit a total of 4 vehicles. I heard from another neighbor who has 3 vehicles that its against HOA rules to park on the street, everyday. In one case, their garage is so full of stuff there isnt enough room for even 1 car. We have alot of kids on our street and I'm concerned for their safety since they don't always look both ways when crossing between these daily parked cars.

I believe there is no rule against street parking ...as long as the car is properly registered with county .... at least that is what I was told when I contacted HOA office ....

We live in the Southern Walk Courtyard area near the townhomes and I have to say that I am very disappointed in the way our neighborhood looks overall due to all of the street parking. Larchmont near Village in the evenings looks like a city street. Nevermind the fact that the streets here are so narrow that with cars on it only a single car can pass safely. I see the people who park on the street and they are almost always from houses with empty driveways. I don't get it. We also have a teenager who parks almost every day in front of our next door neighbors house with his car facing the wrong way. Duh.

It's illegal to park along the fire lane usually designated by yellow paint on the curb. T8ergirl - do the cars get moved for the snow plows? If so, then where do the owners move the cars? Their driveway?

I think it might be illegal to park in the opposite direction. Maybe you should call the police and the car may be ticketed. I agree that those streets are pretty narrow and all the cars really "junks" it up a bit.

I don't know. We were out of town this past weekend when it snowed. But I'd be shocked if people had the forethought to move their cars, frankly.

Whatever happened to being a friendly neighbor? I grew up in a neighborhood not too far from here where everyone had cars (many more than 2) and they parked them in their garage, in their driveway, on their street in front of their house and no one made any issue of it. We never thought that seeing a neighbors car would drive down our home's value. Of course we also said hi or waived to all of our neighbors and everyone helped eachother out when they needed it. Maybe if you talked to your neighbors and politely asked them to move their car to be in front of their house, or off your grass they might just do it.

As far the complaint that people own more cars than drivers.... too bad. I was not aware that I was only allowed to own 1 car per person. And you better tell all of those in our community that have an antique or collectors car, that they cannot own it because it forces them to park their everyday car where you can see it. This is absolutely ridiculous. People live in houses and people drive cars - why do we need to hide all evidence of this? These garages are not large enough to put 2 cars and trashcans and strollers and bicycles and tools....

I am more concerned about the lack of friendly neighbors driving down my home's value than an extra car parked on the street or in the driveway. And if you think there are too many cars now, wait until all the children in our community turn 16 - where will they park when they get their own car?

Well Chance, if you do not like it, go back to your friendly neighborhood.

As for the parking in Southern Walk - Courtyard the streets are very narrow and parking on the street allows only 1 car to pass.

As for the friendliness aspect, I have approached neighbors and asked them to move cars from fire lanes and to park the correct way, TO NO AVAIL in some cases. I have even asked one neighbor to have his roommates not park their cars so they stick into our driveway entrance... it still happens. So yes, friendliness is important but so is RESPECT.

And for what it is worth, you are spouting all this "friendliness", yet your first post in this forum is anything but friendly!

    Have a great day!

I do not mean to be unfriendly in my posting however it seems that a lot of these posts on the forum are from individuals who have forgotten what it means to be a neighbor. I take care of my property, my lawn is landscaped, I conceal my trashcan, I have applied for and been granted any modification I have done to our home, I have late model cars that are well maintained but I happen to park one of our cars on the street - every day. Sure enough, that now seems to be an issue as we have received a complaint. I can understand being upset if you have a neighbor that is completely letting their house go and have junky cars that they don't drive. But complaining that your neighbor has more cars than drivers? It seems that you should find something better to worry about than starting a formal complaint because their car is parked in the street, where it is legally allowed to be parked. We work full time so the car is only parked there in the evening and weekends. We live in a SFH and only park in front of our house, several feet from the property line and the required distance back from the mailbox. We choose not to park our cars in the garage because we have our trashcan, tools, bicycles, strollers, etc in there and don't want to constantly be moving the cars in and out.

I guess I have a hard time understanding why your neighbor would not respond to a polite request to change how they park their cars. If a neighbor came to me with an issue that was reasonable I would do my best to honor that request. The main issue is that we all know that this neighborhood has inadequate sized garages in the SF and not enough parking spaces for the townhomes. We all know it and we have no solution for it. I am just voicing my opinion (as you have the right to voice yours) that why can't we all just get along? (corny, I know)

And yes for the record we will probably be leaving this neighborhood due to some of these issues. I think the majority of my neighbors are very friendly but there is always that one or two who want to take the covenant books and look for something wrong and I just don't think that is the right attitude to have.

EVERY neighborhood has one or two of EVERYTHING! :D

I would hope you would not move just because of a few minor issues (and yes, most issues raised on these forums are very minor).

As for the complaint, since you are parked legally, treat it like door spam and toss it!
