What is the "major roadway through your townhomes?" If it's Village, that's a VDOT street. Your state taxes, not HOA dues, pay for that one.

Please read the Newsletter to see who is responsible for any given street.

My guess is that Ridgeway, like Glebe View, gets done sooner because of the steep hill on it. VDOT came by and did Glebe View, but none of the streets connecting to it.
I'll take your street over mine!

Any idea who we can contact at Van Metre to see when they are going to get to our streets? We live in the new Hedgewood section in Southerwalk and I am assuming VM still owns the powing duties.

Public thank you to our neighbor Mike who drove a Toyota Land Cruiser in and out of everyone's driveway on the cul de sac last night so we could get out! :)

Please see pages 17 and 18 of the December newsletter to determine who is reponsible for clearing your street and for contact information. The news letter is also on line here.

I saw 2 plow trucks go by Windy Oaks Square last night and both times they just drove through the street without clearing the road.

And the way the street is looking right now ( only one car can go by at any given time ) we need to place a one way sign at the entrance to prevent accident or grid lock.

Seriously we need to send plow truck drivers up north ( New Hampshire, Maine, etc... ) for snow removal traning :).

The roads are definitely still in need of a little TLC... best to stay indoors if you're able. I ended up going into the office, but there were a few moments where I wondered if I should just turn around. I did not see pavement until I got to LoCo Pkwy, and it was still not a comfortable ride until Waxpool. This was too be expected by last week's predictions. There's a lot of snow out there. Best wishes and safe travels to all.

Any improvement since these pics were taken? I have to go all the way up to the top of the hill to make a delivery later today.

Cliff, unfortunately that's not the case. You might recall several angry posts last snowstorm about the plows turning around at the bottom of the hill (Stone Hollow/Ridgeway).

Ridgeway still doesn't look great, but it's driveable. Our Honda Civic made it up the hill yesterday. Highview Trail (in the cul-de-sac) is AWESOME. The plow that was out at 1:45am Sunday morning did a fantastic job.

Has Ridgeway been plowed? If it has, then I stand by my assessment. They did Glebe View because of the hill, but ignored all the streets that connect to Glebe View.

In an area like ours, an 'electric' model might make more sense and provide considerable savings. For example, $228 will get you one of these:

HOA budget per last newsletter is $32,500 for Townhouse community. Bayard Terrace in Southern Walk Townhouse community was never plowed. Why do we pay such high HOA fees for? We and our neighbors had to manually shovel our street and when the plow did come late Sunday night it pushed all our work up on our driveways. HOA fees for Townhouses is much higher too than the single family homes units. Budget shows that $1,500 is budget for plowing the Nature Center but when we walked down we saw how the trucks were sitting in the Nature center and spending all their time plowing the Nature Center.

Somehow I doubt your snow budget accounts for 20" of snow. 6" is more likely. Your dues pay for the removal but all the extra hours and time it takes to plow your entire community (of how many houses?) have to be factored into the equation. When you have a few inches of snow the plows can get things done quickly and easily. Three times that is much more effort and time.

I know everyone is frustrated by the issue and the time it has taken but NoVa is just not equipped for this amount of snow. As frustrating, unfair and annoying as it seems, you can't always count on someone to dig you out in one or two days. That doesn't make it fun, though.

I have a snow thrower but it isn't as big as the one I posted the link to. I'm sure there are plenty of other good options at lower prices. After using our gas model this weekend I will say that it was nice not to have to fuss over an electrical cord. Regardless, the snow thrower was AWESOME this weekend for us and our neighbors.

Primary reason HOA fees are higher for townhomes is because they are private streets. That means the HOA pays for all street maintenance (sealcoating, repaving, curb marking, signage, etc). Most single family homes are on VDOT streets, so they don't pay for this.

I have little sympathy for you and your plight of waiting til Sunday to be plowed. My street has NOT BEEN TOUCHED and VDOT says it may be up to 6 days before they get here.

BS. These guys have been working literally non-stop since Friday night.
Get real. This is one of the biggest storms in a decade. Did you go up to one of the trucks and talk to the drivers? Did you ask them how long they have been working?
Oh, and expect your HOA fees will go up again next year due to this storm.

GOVERNOR KAINE DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY
~Authorizes state agencies to respond to anticipated winter storm ~

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine declared a state of emergency today...

“The snowfall amounts along with strong winds could cause serious problems, including power outages, throughout much of Virginia,” Governor Kaine said. “Virginians need to pay attention to their local weather forecasters, avoid travel, and prepare to be on their own for up to 72 hours.”
