We need a new couch/loveseat for our living room, and I'm not sure where to look. It needs to be really durable-- we have a very active 2 year old and another kid on the way-- but we're not looking to spend a ton. No point getting anything super nice just to have it spilled/spit up on!

We made the mistake of getting a loveseat at Room Store a few years ago, and it basically fell apart within a year. I'm just afraid of that happening again. Is Belfort good quality or is it more like Room Store? Any other ideas?

    Thanks

Belfort is not bad. But to get fabric that will hold up you'd most likely have to wait for it to be made. Haverty's isn't too bad...should last longer than a year. Other thing to try is estate/garage sales and find one with good bones and have a slipcover made that is outdoor upholstery weight that you can wash.

Kincaid (or Klaussner) was good. They let you bargain away! They're located over by AC Moore in that shopping center (off of Ashburn Village Pkwy closest to Route 7). They have La-z-boy selections as well as others. We purchased our family room and bedroom furniture through them. Our couches we purchased through La-z-boy on Signal Hill Plaza (only because what we wanted wasn't available anywhere else).

If Luftinarr says the furniture is good with kids around you can believe her: She has about 5 kids, a few cats, and a dog. :p

4 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats to be exact! Although you would never know considering the amount of kids and dogs in my house at one time. I swear people, we're a fun bunch!!

And make sure to get whatever warranty they have for the furniture for the fabric or leather. We have a leather protection warranty for the couches (no matter what happens we're covered for a replacement couch).

Then again, if you're certain your kids will ruin the furniture, go with the Roomstore again because at least you're not paying up the you know what for furniture that's going to be destroyed. 6 of one, half dozen of another.

I agree with Brassy on Belfort. We purchased a Broyhill sectional 5 years ago for our media room and it still looks new (however we barely use it).

For our family room/every day room, we have Pottery Barn's Manhattan Leather Collection, we have used it everyday for 5+ years.

At least we are not the only ones with bad experiences with Room Store furniture. We bought our family room couch there, and we do NOT have small children, however, it is falling apart. Quality is very very poor with their furniture, and I will not buy there again.

We bought sofas at Beldort over 10 years ago and they are now starting to show wear and tear. We also have 3 boys so that is probably why. We also have 2 Rowe sofas that I beliee Belfort sells. Those sofas have been around for about 14 years and are in perfect condition.

Custom sofas may take 6-12 weeks but I think that Belfort usually overextimates the time. I have never had to wait more than 6 weeks for anything and it is usually less time than that.

We just bought a sofa sectional from Macy's, have only had it for a few weeks, but seems like very good quality and was a great price! Our last family room sofa was bought eight years prior from Bloomingdale's and they just were moved down to the basement, but still in great shape!

For inexpensive couch that would handle small kids - IKEA. They last long, have removable, washable covers and dont cost much so when the kids are older you dont feel bad just pitching them and getting solid new ones.

A coworker just bought it as well. Its just him and his wife, so I don't think it will be overused. The one negative (for me) is that he had to put his together. I have tools but no idea how they work and have no intention of learning!!
