Does anyone know of a place around here that fills propane tanks? We used to go to Southern States in Leesburg but it closed last summer. Last time I swapped one out I turned in a tank that was in great condition and got a beat up looking one back.

The only place I have found around here is the Uhaul off Rte 50 in Chantilly -- it's about 15-20 minutes from here. I have had pretty good luck with the Blue Rhino exchange at Home Depot though. you might want to give them a try before driving to Chantilly.

Home Depot at exit 6. Costs just under $13.00. The Mobile station on Waxpool near the Broadlands Pub & Grill will also exchange them but I understand the cost is more. I also have been told that Foodland does exchanges as well. Just be prepared to wait if you go to Home Depot.

I like my own tank and prefer to refill mine, I know of 2 places around here that fill propane. Blue Mount nursery on 7 does, but I always go to the equipment rental place on Old Ox Road just east of the Greenway. I believe its called United Rentals, they are very friendly and fast and will carry your tank for you...

Noticed today that Blimpies/Gas Station on Sterling Blvd, close to 28 fills propane tanks. Didn't catch how much.

BJ's warehouse fills tanks for members and non members. Last I checked, it was half the price of the Blue Rhino exchange. Of course, the downside is driving to Fair Lakes...

I have a Blue Rhino tank now since I gave up on driving around to get my old tank filled (formerly at Southern States in Leesburg). The Blue Rhino tanks are 17 pounds while most OEM tanks are 20 pounds. I was told by nice folks at HomeDepot that Blue Rhino's tanks hold just as much fuel. Sure, just like when you buy a one pound coffee can that now holds only 13.5 oz...

I strongly recommend D & B Rental which is just under 15 minutes from the Broadlands.
28 South, take a left on Old Ox Rd (606) approximately 1 to 1 1/2 miles on your left.

Address: 2 Douglas Ct, Sterling, VA 20166
    Phone: (703) 435-1414

It cost me just under $15.00 for a tank. Great service too!

There is a gas station just east of the intersection of route 50 and old ox road which does ONLY refills. It's the closest one to me that I am aware of. The UHAUL further east on 50 is the next most reliable location depending on where you are driving from.

Has anyone ever gotten the impression that "exchanged" tanks are not as full as "refilled" tanks? I am wondering if it is my imagination. Seems that there is more pounds of fuel in the exchanged ones.
