    From the Washington Post:

"Loudoun County uses Diebold Elections Systems's Accu-Vote optical-scan system. This machine is not a "DRE." Rather, voters fill in their ballots by hand and submit them into the machine, which then records the votes electronically."

Thanks for the directions! I didn't know which of the three different Waxpools the school was located on. :)

Think High School Scantron or College Board computer scanned forms.

These have a very large oval you FILL IN, using the ink pen supplied in each booth.

    What will happen is this:

    1. Get on the voting line(duh) :D Be sure you're in the right line for your last name.

    2. Check in with election officials at desk with some sort of ID: Virginia Voter's Card, Social Security Card, valid Virginia Drivers License, any other ID issued by a government agency (IE: Armed Forces ID card, etc.), any valid employer's ID containing a photo and issued by the voter's employer in the normal course of business.

There are special requirements if you registered to vote by mail, and this is your first time voting in a Federal election. The best thing to do here is bring a valid photo ID, it will save alot of time.

Once checked in the officials will issue you a token.

    3. Take the token to the official in charge of issuing forms, They will take the token, and give you an official ballot and privacy sleeve. They will remind you to fill out both sides of the ballot.

    4. Walk over to the voting booth, where another official will direct you to the next available booth. In the booth, select your choices using the PEN SUPPLIED !! It is a black, fine point marker. It is the only thing that should be used. Fill in the oval next your your choice COMPLETELY. Remember from high school, stay within the printed lines of the oval as much as possible.

    5. When finished selecting your choices, insert the form into the privacy sleeve, LEAVE THE PEN, then walk over to the ballot box holding the privacy sleeve where marked. Insert the end of the ballot into the slot on the ACCU-VOTE, where it will be automatically pulled into the machine and tallied. Give the privacy form to the official at the box.

If the form is returned from the ACCU-VOTE, take the form, turn it 180 degrees and enter it again. You are NOT double voting, the system did not read it the first time in. If there is still an issue, the official will assist you.

    6. Head out the exit, with a smile on your face, knowing that you have performed your Civic Duty !!

This narrative is fairly quick and dirty, but it'll give you an idea.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ... be PATIENT ... If you can try to vote between 9am and 3PM when there is usually less of a line. We are expecting a HUGE turnout, and if anyone remembers 2000, there were lines out the door at 6:00 AM !!

Do not be discouraged, stay and vote. If you miss a meeting, tell them you were doing a higher duty, or tell them to take a hike. Either way, you'll feel good about voting !!
