Well I have made several posts in the past and searched the forums for contacts for various contractors, handymen, etc. Would it be possible to have a sticky post with a list of contacts that everyone uses? It could be something like:

    Who do you use for:
    Air Conditioning and Heating -
    Siding Repair -
    Roof Repair -
    Lawn Care -
    Maid Service -
    Handyman repair -
    Remodeling -
    Basement finishing -
    etc.

Someplace that people could go to for recommendations without having to wait for a response. No advertising allowed of course, but people could also provide feedback. Kind of like resellerratings.com.

    Thoughts?

that would definately be cool if you could do something like resellerratings for all sorts of businesses. the problem is getting enough data into it to become useful.... that would take some time I would imagine. building the tool wouldn't be very hard.

it appears this loudoundeals.com website I heard about on the radio have reviews for certain businesses.

Who do you use for Pest Control and HVAC maintenance?

Deck we used Northern Virignia Desk and Patio - they did an outstanding job and built 3 decks in a row on our street.

We used Dominion for our Fence, they put the fence up 10 ft short of our property line. They told us to split the difference in fixing the problem, I said we are not paying more money to fix your mistakes and we haven't heard back from them. We called the owner numerous times and he hasn't returned our calls. It's been almost a year now. Any suggestions on how to deal with them?

I'd say small claims court should do it.

Try directing them to this thread, and showing them that their failure to correct this situation could result in a loss of business. A lot of potential customers look at these forums (even if only a select few post to them).

I would suggest contacting the Better Business Bureau. You can fill out the paperwork online. http://www.bbb.org/.

Also, Loudoun County probably has a consumer affairs office where you could lodge a complaint.

If not, I know the Attorney Generals Office (in Richmond) has a consumer fraud section. http://www.oag.state.va.us/

I'll leave small claims court as the last option.

I would direct them to the forums if they would return my phone calls.

I filed a complaint with the BBB, it takes about a month to process. In the desired outcome, I asked they fix the fence or reimburse for half the cost of the fence so I can get another fence company to fix it. I'll look into Loudoun County consumer affairs as well.
