I am having issues with my freezer - from the research I believe there is an issue with the defroster or thermostat (freezer gets cool, but not cold and there was ice build up on the back panel). In any event, after the ice thaws, then what?! I'm not handy enough to fix this myself. How much would someone charge to fix this and how much are the parts. Who do I call exactly!?

sounds like a defrost heater -- I had to replace one once and it was around $25 ... check out http://www.repairclinic.com/ and search for your model (even if you dont' do it yourself you'll see the part cost).. If you're handy it should take about 30mins.

We fixed ours recently. Replaced the heater and thermostat. These are pretty easy to swap out, and pretty inexpensive.

Also replaced the adaptive defrost for good measure, this is in the fridge compartment and requires a little more work but doable.

Make sure when you put the thermostat back on you put it at the back of the coil or will not defrost completely. Total parts was around 100 I think, we have a Maytag Plus if memory serves.
