We have one and love it. It was in the house when we bought it, so we didn't compare brands, etc. We can tell a big difference when we turn it off or drink water at a neighbors house.

We had one before we moved to Virginia and we LOVED it. The only thing I'd check before is if you have kids - make sure it doesn't filter out flouride!

    afgm and others:

I just wanted to tell you hubby recently put in a whole house water system under our sink which filters out carbon and other sediments. Omni is the brand we used and DIY project not too hard. Below are some helpful web sites for your perusal:

consumersearch.com (Consumer Search is similar to Consumer Reports and you just inquire online as to which product you wish to review.)

wikihow.com/Choose-the-Best-Method-of-Water-Treatment (Wikihow is great for home water filtration questions and consumer information.)

nrdc.org/water/drinking/gfilters.asp (National Resources Defense Council is a clearinghouse for water drinking information for consumers with questions and answers for yourself concerning installation of whole house water systems. They provide various aspects of consumer concerns regarding water systems, etc.).

We love ours and change cartridges about every three to six months. I change the cartridges myself so if I can do it--any one can. Also, a cartridge water system on fridges are also great.

Good luck and do not get "waterlogged!":pofl:

I think a "whole house" water filter infers installing it at the water main - so all the water is filtered, not just at the kitchen sink.

Not always--it can mean under the sink installation also.

Here is another link I found to explain varying types of water systems:

www.softwater.com/faq.html (Check out for all questions concerning water systems.)
