Why can't people put carts away at Safeway?

This just gets me. I've never understood this. Today (i know it's windy but come on) a cart nails my new car. less than 1000 miles and now I've got a huge dent in the side of it. Rediculous. There were carts all over the place just sitting out and moving about in the wind. Even saw a lady "try" to put her cart away on our way out. I use the word try lightly. She got within 10 feet of the cart return and pushed it in where it immediatly came back out and started moving down the street to hit another car. We placed it back in the cart return properly before it struck another car.

WHY ARE PEOPLE AROUND HERE SO LAZY THAT THEY CAN'T RETURN CARTS!!!!

Now I've got at least a $300 dollar fix on my new car. Argh that pisses me off.

For the same reason they feel they don't have to pick up their dog waste, they feel they don't have to, and no one can make them.

It's beneath these pathetic, arrogant megalomaniacs to give a rat's patooty about anything or anyone but themselves. Knowing they make up an extraordinary percentage of the local population and frequent the local shopping center, I always park on the downhill side of the parking lot islands, and someone still managed to sideswipe my new car there.

I've been lucky thus far, but yes...a great deal of the local populus are just jackasses. It'd be nice if the local grocery stores had barriers at the sidewalk and you couldn't take your cart out into the lot...but then we'd have the same people that are too lazy to huff their groceries by hand blocking up the lane in front of the store with their giant SUVs loading a couple bags of crap.

This is defaintely one of my biggest pet peeves. People are so lazy and will do anything to not have to walk the cart about 30 feet to the cart corral. I actually call people out on it if I see them doing it (like putting the front wheels of a cart up onto a median, etc)... But what brim said... no carts in the parking lot would help curb the situation. People are so spoiled and don't realize how lucky they have it, and still act like idiots.

And another thing - Why do people feel the need to pull their car/SUV/land yacht up to the curb and "pop in" to the stores or wait for someone instead of parking in a space???
This is my biggest peeve, especially when they do this in the pedestrian crosswalk.
    Lazyasses.

I hate those people who feel that they are privileged enough to NOT follow the laws and park at the no-parking curb in front of stores. The "too good to park" people are my biggest pet peeve. I think it has to do more with the fact that they think they are better then everyone else rather then their laziness. These people are just "Obliviates". (someone from this forum introduced me to that very apt term). Broadlands, unfortunately, is full of Obliviates. I wish there was some way get people to stop being so selfish (carts, curb parking, trash, & dog poop!).

I had a friend who drove a truck for the fire department and I asked her one time, what the FD does about these guys. Her response: there's not a private vehicle out there that This truck can't push out of the way. Almost makes you hope there's an emergency while they're there! (Oh, and folks that park in front of fire hydrants: they usually just bust the windows and run the hose through).

This has been a pet peeve of mine for years. It's not just at the Safeway, it's everywhere. And it is not just the lazy people, there are also vicious people out there. Last year shortly after I bought my new car I came out to a parking lot to find a shopping card touching it, and quite the dent in the side of the car. On the windshield was a note telling me:

"I saw someone run a shopping cart into your car on purpose. His license plate number is XXX-XXX-XXX."

I went to the police, never heard a thing about it after. :(

Another pet peeve of mine are people in the grocery store NOT putting items back to where they got them from. There are people putting frozen items on regular shelves for crying out loud ... that is just wrong. The lazyness of people is unbelievable. If you determine you don't want an item, take it back to where you got it from, it won't be more than a few steps, believe me.

I am glad I am not the only one who get aggravated by this. I too see it all the time. I once saw a young woman load up her mini van and just leave the cart in the space next to her as she hopped in the car. I walked over to her and in my best sarcastic tone said "Oh don't worry, let me take this over to that cart corral right behind you." She then cluelessly states something to the effect of "oh gee thanks". What a spoiled, self centered population we have around here.
I couldn't agree more about the "curb parkers". Who are these jerks!? It's rampant everywhere in Ashburn. The 3 most abused fire lanes I've seen are the Safeway shopping center, Manhattans pizza (saw 5 lined up there Friday night 1 for pizza 4 for dry cleaner) and the Exxon near the Giant.

I see the self-absorbed curb parkers in front of the Starbucks all the time, often right after I park my car in the parking lot (Gee- is that what those spaces are for?). I just want to slap a bumper sticker on their car that says, "I am a selfish ***** and I can do whatever I want".

slightly off topic but related.... since moving here 10 months ago, my car has received more car door dings than in 4 years living in FFX county. All four doors plus the two front fender panels now have dings. Arrggghhhhh. Is it kids or self-centered clueless SOB's???

I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this. I had to take my car to the dealer today anyway and they said that if their ding guy comes in he would look at fixing it for me. That would be a nice surprise to say the least.

I think it would be a good idea to remove the carts from the parking lot. We had that at our last home shoping center and it worked great. I would be all for that.

On a side note, if the dent is relatively shallow and has no crease in it you can probably pull it out yourself by holding dry ice over the spot until the metal contracts enough to straighten out. The trick is finding dry ice around here without ordering steaks from Kansas City Steak.

Interesting, I had not heard of that trick. If the dealer does not fix it I'll take a look into trying that.

People really are just plain lazy and dishonest to boot. I saw a girl swing way too wide into the space she was trying to park in and hit the car next to her. Does she leave a note (she had visible damage and so did the car she hit)? Nope. What does she do? Backs up and pulls through to another spot so she's not "found out". I left a note on the car she hit with her plate #, color, make, and model of her car. I mean come on, do the right thing!! Yeah it sucks that you hit somebody but how would you feel if you came out of the store and your car was all busted up! :(

The people who refuse to put their carts away are generally the same people who try to "piggy-back" someone at a four-way stop rather than waiting their turn.

9 times out of 10, these are people who are driving vehicles too big for them, that is, they really have no idea where their four wheels are located, and how wide that Expedition really is.

They don't center themselves in the parking space, and then they open their doors without a care and BANG ... its your car that gets the ding !!

I've been lucky ... (fingers are crossed) ... my Mini fits in the middle of a space with room to spare.

It's because most SUV owners are too lazy to park farther down the line where there are a few open spots allowing for easier parking maneuvers. They would rather squeeze into a spot that's 20 feet closer to the store.
You're right that they usually have more vehicle than they can handle. Most of these people bought them solely for the status symbol. Then they expect people to feel sorry that they can't dock their boat at Starbucks.

I think the grocery stores started allowing carts in the lots when they stopped providing dedicated curb-side help.

Just years ago, grocery stores for the most part did not allow carts off the curb, and now they all do.
