Can someone explain please? With the HOA fees, and the amount of taxes we pay, money for plowing has to be in there somewhere, so where the heck are the plows!!??

All the streets within my immediate neighborhood were well taken care of before noon, Sunday. Great Job!

The roads by us were not touched and are suppose to be maintained by VDOT. When I called their No. VA District office (703) 383-8368 they had no record that these streets were under their care. They said that they would look into it and give me an answer by the end of today, just in time for another freeze. I called and left a message for Wes and he called me back and said that he was going to try and help and contact VDOT to get these roads taken care of. The roads are Scara and Reamy, they did Sturman but it was a terrible job.
Thanks Wes for trying to help us out.

Thanks to Wes for the following info:

developer maintains some streets, vdot maintains others. the good news is that single family home owners don't pay for snow removal in HOA fees, the bad news is that some of us has to wait on vdot to get to us, wich we DO pay for via taxes!!!

I called VDOT last night about my 2 streets and they said we "would be added to the list"... that's up there with "the check is in the mail... the email must have bounced"... any others to add? :)

the vdot/developer maintained streets are listed in the latest newsletter- call them at 703-383-VDOT and raise sand! or salt in this case... lol Maybe if more of us call the sooner they will want us off their backs and get the Broadlands over and done with before we clog their phone lines.

    Ciao,

I would have to say that the streets under HOA maintenance were significantly better than those maintained by VDOT. On our street, the guy doing the plowing got a fantastic 6-8 inches from the curbs!

for the hoa maintained streets.. one of the best clearings I've seen in awhile. By sunday morning, streets were clear to pavement.. by the afternoon even the paths were cleared. I was pleasently suprised.

not by 9am it hadn't. They were out at like 4am plowing. It was great to have the streets actually done before you got out of the house.

Gentle Heights Ct. was never plowed.
    Nice big hill.
Who do I send my insurance claim to when I slide going up it and nail something??
In almost 6 years of living here this has never happened and we've been covered by VDOT for 2 years now.

you can tell if your street is VDOT because there are black and white number signs (usually on the stop signs) in addition to the green street name signs. We're VDOT (Marsh Creek and surrounding) and VDOT never made it here. Of course the sun has pretty much taken care of it now.

FWIW ... in all of this Winter's newsletters, there has been an article on who is in charge of the streets.

    Rule of thumb:

    1. If VDOT has taken over control of your street (look for black on white numbered signs on the street poles) .. its a VDOT problem. It looks like the local maintenance office did not get the word, as this is the second snowfall this winter and the roads have not been done.

    2. If you live in townhouse areas that have been turned over to the HOA (all of the northern townhouse areas, some south) the HOA has the responsibility.

    3. If you live in Overland Park, as well as the cluster of SFHs off Chickacoan near Broadlands Blvd, the HOA clears those areas.

    4. All others are still maintained by the developer of your location. Townhouses, by the townhouse developer, SFNs by Van Metre who (I believe) is the only one still building SFH in Broadlands.

Please review the article in Febrauary's newsletter for more info.

    VDOT Response.

    Dear Ms. Johnson,

Thank you for sharing with us your concern about the condition of Gentle Heights Court and the side streets in the Broadlands Development. I understand from the superintendent in charge of your area that two trucks were dispatched earlier today to the referenced location and to the surrounding subdivisions to maintain any of the streets that we may have missed last night. This work will remain in process as long as needed to ensure that all the streets receive the required maintenance. I assure you that our intent was to make at least one pass on all the side streets throughout the county last night. I am confident that this happened on the majority of the side streets with the possibility that a few were missed. I will follow up on this issue to ensure that none of the streets are missed again during future storms.

I regret the inconvenience you may have encountered and I will be happy to discuss this with you further, if you wish. I can be reached at (703)737-2034. Thank you again for bringing this issue to our attention.

    Sincerely,

    Gaby Hakim

    Loudoun Maintenance
