Are there any working mother's groups in Ashburn? It seems like all the Mother's groups are for stay at home mom's only. I have two kids 10 and 2 and would love to know if there is a group out there for me.

    Thanks:)

It would be nice if we could have one here in Broadlands and have the community center and or nature center come up with some events for kids that we working moms can attend too.

I second motion that idea. I live in the Broadlands and also work full-time and have two children 4 and 2. Sometimes I feel I'm out of the loop in my neighborhood because most moms stay home and they get together during the day. I'm looking forward for Ladies Work-Out Express opening soon.

Maybe we should coordinate an after work social hour, like coffee, tea, dessert. Just a thought? Can HOA sponsor such event?

I would be glad to help get something started for working parents. I can set up an evening meeting to talk about this or you can contact me at the Nature Center. Let me know what you want and how you can help.

The Community Center is available free-of-charge for community groups during the week and on the occasional weekend if it is a Community-sponsored event. The Recreation Committee or the Events Committee might be able to set up a weekend activity. The Events Committee currently offers seasonal activities for families and I have scheduled activities on the weekends and during the evenings. I am working with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and the Audobon Society to offer regular family activities in our community. If you know of any other organizations you would like to me contact, let me know. It doesn't have to be nature-related, (my official title is Nature Activities Director).

    Jan,

I'd love to attend any programs (weekends or evenings also as I'm a working mom) similar to the National Wildlife Conservatory, where you are taught how to make your backyard a natural habitat (you can even get your yard "certified" with a plaque). I'm sure I can just follow the recommendations on their site at http://www.nwf.org/backyardwildlifehabitat/createhabitat.cfm
but I think a local class on it would be great. I'm having trouble deciding how to attract more birds, etc., to our new townhouse's itty bitty yard!

I would definitely be interested in helping to start one, but I really don't know what that would entail...

From my experience in my line of work, we need to start a committee. Like collecting interest party information. You can count me in. Then, schedule a place and time to meet to brain storm. Since most moms are working during the day, we should meet sometime early evening to start planning. This could be a weekly gathering, bi-weekly, or monthly. The most important thing is to come into an agreement and then advertise in this forum and/or Broadlands Newsletter. Any other suggestions anyone?

Wow! I'm glad I found this forum. I'm going to jump into this conversation for another purpose, although I would like to be included in your meeting since I'm moving back to Virginia (Sterling) next month (November '03) as it would be great to meet other moms in the area.

I have a one year old child and after his birth I decided not to go back to work. As luck would have it, about the same time, a fellow church member asked if I would babysit her baby and I said yes. It has been a great experience and I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that another family would like personalized child care for their child too. I will provide a safe environment with lots of TLC, good references (from GA and VA) and affordable fees.

If you need a "Professional Mom" or know someone that does, please contact me at 404-816-1170 or at debbiemoffat@earthlink.net.

PS: If I don't find a family, I'll be asking you for some job leads in Marketing and PR!

Hope to meet you all soon.

Yikes, I just realized this post is from '03. Are there any working mom's interested in starting a group? I'd be happy to initiate it and get it started. I just need to know there are others who want to do it, too. Email me! :)
