Our yard waste was put out on the curb Sunday night to be picked up on Monday. It is still sitting out there. I re-read the rules, and it says Yard Waste pick up day is Monday. Do I call the trash people personally or just hope they pick it up the next trash day?

    Thanks for your input.

Yes. They won't pick up if it's in plastic?

No, they will not pick it up unless it is in appropriate bags. Not their rules, I believe it is the County who imposed the restrictions.

Just great! This is the first time it's been a problem, for three years I've been putting leaves, etc. in plastic bags and it's been picked up. It would be nice if they would tell us that.

They county passed new guidelines a few years back and they fine any trash company that brings in yard waste in non recyclable containers. The old company did not care and racked up the fines that they then tried to pass on to the homeowners. Just so you know, you can put it on the curb in a different trash can (marked yard waste) or any container you have such as your recycling bin so they can just dump it if you do not want to purchase the lawn bags. Or when you go to the grocery store just ask for the paper bags and use those. Hope that helps

I saw some plastic bags at the grocery store that were labeled "for recyclables". Would Patriot pick those up? I'd like to use them for my shredded paper if possible.

It was in the details in the newsletter. Those have been reposted here if you want to look it over

I've put on recyclables (cans, bottles, etc) in plastic bags when the bin has been overflowing and they have taken it. I think the plastic bag issues only applies to grass clippings, etc.

My understanding of the rule was that if it was to be yard waste, it could be in plastic bags but the bags had to be clear so the trash crew could clearly see it was yard waste.

I have always used a mix of clear plastic bags and yard bags and never had an issue before. Now what I am curious about is I saw they collect motor oil. How do we put that out to be recycled?

Yuor understanding is incorrect. County regs do not allow plastic bags for yard waste in the landfill.

I never saw where plastic bags were accepted. With the old trash contractor, they'd pick up ANYTHING - plastic or not, which used to annoy me because we followed the rules and always put our yard waste in the paper bags or an extra trash bin.

New Vision dumped their trash in another county that did not have the "no plastic" bag requirement......at least that's what they said.

OK I put my motor oil out for pickup since it says they pick up motor oil. They didn't pick it up. Are there any special rules for motor oil? Does it have to be in a certiain type of container?, certain type of marking?

It must be in a sealed container marked "Motor Oil" . Please send your address and I can have it picked up today. Rather than answer on the forums, please call the office at 703-729-9704.

Maureen, where is this documented? It needs to be added to the specifics, otherwise, if people don't ask here and simply call the office, we would never know. In this case, I think it's valid that an answer be posted here if in fact these details are not posted anywhere else. It could keep other people from having to call...

The article in the newsletter says they collect motor oil. Seems to me that saying it must be marked and in a sealed container is kind of obvious. JWF had done it correctly, except that the "sign" identifying it had been taken or blown away. I thought JWF wouldn't want their address on the forums so I suggested that they call.

Well, the yard waste has now been put in those big paper bags from Home Depot. It really is a joke, though. The paper bags are going to rip right open when the trash people try to pick them up. We did exactly as told, only put the waste to the dotted line. I need to ask, now, who is going to clean up the mess when it goes all over the place? The trash company or the homeowners?

if it is in the bag at the curb intact and the trash people rip it they are responsible for cleaning up behind themselves
