I never said that some opinions have been bought. I don't think Donna's opinion was bought, as she started this before she was employed by Inova. Also, the hospital was not in the original plans for this community, and I believe putting a hospital here is like putting a square peg in a round hole. This community was not planned with a hospital, and I don't believe that a hospital belongs here.

Please do not say that I agree that opinions have been bought. I've never said that about anybody's opinions.

So, maybe you thought this meant that I was aware that Donna was employed by Inova. Yes, that's true, but she wasn't employed by Inova when she organized the protest against BRMC. Do you recall that fact? Not all people who are against the hospital are employed by Inova, or have not done the research into this issue. Many of us are cognizant of the issues and still believe the county would be better served by a hospital in the Route 50 corridor.

    Duely noted cobyman.

It's my opinion that if someone employs you or hires you as a result of your efforts; efforts to influence public opinion on a hospital, that to me means you're paid to promote that view. It may seem harsh but that is a compensated agenda.

I can understand your difference of opinion. It still doesn't change the fact that the list produced by Donna is tainted with bogus signatures.

Are you sure? Have you seen this new list? Or are you making claims based on what you perceive to have happened in the past? I'd like to see if your claim is based in fact. I'm confident that whatever mistakes have been made in the past were just that; mistakes. If not, I wouldn't have placed my name on the list. I'm sure that the list is covered under the Freedom of Information Act, or available by some other means.

This is where I get a bit steamed when people talk about "serving the county". It is mostly futuristic talk considering that a hospital built on Rt 50 would not begin "serving the county" for at least 10 to 15 years! That sure does us alot of good in the now and near future.

Most people who support the hospital agree that it is not the perfect location, but we need another hospital (and choice) SOONEST, not to mention the additional plusses of tax revenue, jobs and money spent in the community. We have the population base, the real estate and the infrastructure to build in Broadlands TODAY, Rt 50 does not, even Inova thinks this.

Right, so let's let HCA build a hospital in an inappropriate location, even though they have a reputation for fraud and trying to dodge their tax obligations. Of course some of us want a hospital on the Route 50 corridor, especially those who are the most impacted (like Middleburg). It's awful to say that we should build a hospital here for the tax revenue and leave those in Western Loudoun hanging. I do believe in the county's better interests, however idealistic you may think that is.

    cobymom,

The debate about land use applicability and location has concluded. That is what the planning commission has been deliberating on for months. If not years. A majority do not agree that Rt 50 is a better place. A majority believe Broadlands fits the land use requirements.

Now it's on to the economic issues. Which by the way are extremely strong in HCAs favor.

Yes I am sure. Very sure. Beyond a doubt sure. I am very confident past "mistakes" were deliberate and they are still being made. There is no remorse amongst the ethically challenged. You probably should have done more due diligence before signing the list. There would have been more reputable ways for you to register your objection to the location.

I guarantee that I've done more than sign a petition to voice my objection to BRMC. I agree with the Comprehensive Plan that says a hospital is needed, and should be built in the Route 50 corridor.

What gets me steamed is people who worship at the altar of revenue, without considering the greater good. Or considering the past history of the corporation promising these tax revenues. This is not the proper location for a hospital, as Broadlands was not built with a hospital in mind, and there is a need for a hospital in the route 50 corridor, no matter what "revenue" is projected.

The folks in Lovettsville and Hillsboro want a hospital too. Why not build it there? Why aren't they the most impacted?

Lets not be naive. They won't build it on Rt. 50 or in the west because its not viable. Rt. 50 does not have the population to support a hospital now or in the near future. It also does not have the road network. How do I know? Look at the EMS call data. The Rt. 50 corridor has less than half the calls of Ashburn.

The people in Western Loudoun will be served by BRMC. No, it won't be next door but nobody would locate a hospital out there because it would go out of business from lack of patients. The county's best interests are served by allowing a business that wants to invest $200,000,000 and the state Health Commissioner to decide where a hospital most makes sense. Tax revenue and roads are a side benefit of BRMC. The reason to build it is for improved access to top quality healthcare, doctors and specialists.

Yes, let's not be naive. They won't build there because they're a for profit organization. There should be a hospital there, to benefit the residents of western Loudoun, but they're not "worth" it. They'll make more money here because there are more people here that they can charge more money for their services than the underserved areas they closed hospitals in to get the cerificate of public need to justify this hospital.

You do realize that they closed two hospitals to justify the COPN for BRMC?

Ever see the approved zoning in the comp. plan for Broadlands? Class A office space parallel to the Greenway. There isn't a need for a hospital in Rt 50.

Thank you INOVA for littering Dulles South with all your ridiculous "Build the hospital on rt 50 signs". I sure wish you put the same amount of efforts and money into "giving back to the community" as a non-profit as you have into this ridiculous campaign. How much money was spent on this? At least the local newspapers have been able to benefit greatly from this battle with page after page of your ridiculous ads. I personally like the one about how HCA is tied with Wall Street greed so its a bad, bad company.

Donna- Who is going to clean these signs up after BRMC is approved? I sure hope they do not remain littering the landscape in my neck of the woods. I know, I know they were 'funded' by the Stop BRMC organization so they weren't tied to INOVA.

As I explained, I did not intend the use of the term to be negative or patronizing. I apologized for it. I guess that's not good enough for you.
Mr. Rogers and I have had some sparring back and forth in the past, so I used that term (in my mind) as a friendly spar.
What you think that "reveals" is I guess up to you.

Just out of curiosity, are you aware that Inova is currently paying over $11,000,000 in fines for similar billing issues?
If this as a reason for objection, then I guess we need to close down Inova.

Some interesting unbiased statistics from an unbiased source that Inova quotes,
    Virginia Health Information:

Let's do a quick comparison to the two hospitals nearest us, Inova Loudoun and Reston Hospital:

Dollars paid per admission: Loudoun: $9136 Reston: $8492.
Charity Care: Loudoun: 7.55% Reston: 8.83%
PROFIT margin: Loudoun: 11.4% Reston 2.57%

So, the "not-for-profit" charges more, provides less charity care, and has four times the profit than the "for profit" hospital.

And the "not-for-profit" hospital company will not build a hospital in an area, Rte 50, where there won't be any measurable profit for years and years....but they think the "for profit" should build a hospital there.

And the "not-for-profit" company is currently operating under a Corporate Integrity Agreement" and paying millions in fines for billing issues.

So those that simply want to bash HCA as a company, I thought you might find this information useful.
