I talked to Patriot and they said people who want a new recycle toter will need to call and request it. They were getting too many people complaining about not wanting the new ones so they stopped automatically refreshing.

Which is EXACTLY why I didn't want the HOA to just drop them off without the resident wanting one.

^^^LIKE^^^ I said the same thing... Makes no since to force them on people - making them available was great - but let people request and then do a coordinated drop on a couple times in the month...

Now we are stuck with both. Why aren't they picking up the bins? Do we have to request that too?

They picked up my bins when the delivered the new one. I saw my neighbor's get picked up yesterday, too, when she received her new larger toter. They must have missed yours somehow.

As usual, great minds think alike. However, I didn't get any support for my suggestion!

Love the new toters! We always have more recycling than regular trash, and had two bins plus another trash can full of recycling on Thursdays. I'm happy to have a trash company that is so supportive of recycling

We love the new totes too but don't need or want our old brown bins. We keep putting them out empty next to our new bin but they keep leaving them behind. Looks like I need to call. It appears most of our street is in the same boat.

Recycling is admirable to an extent, but sometimes we rely on it too heavily so much so, that it fuels guiltless consumption. The smartest choice is to reduce waste by cutting down on packaging. Choose products with minimal packaging or packaging made from recycled materials. Maybe there's a reason it's the third R in "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle."

It takes a lot of energy to recycle cans and glass and just as much, if not more energy to recycle plastic. Recycled plastic used for decking, lawn furniture or wallets, is still plastic, will eventually degrade in appearance or functionality, and get tossed in the trash, over and over again. Only a small percentage of recyclable plastic will actually go that route, and then you have a lot of plastic which cannot be recycled at all, so it ends up in the landfill anyway.

Discarded plastic, glass, metal, and paper is still garbage.

We stopped using bottled water about 5 years ago, and I'm very conscious of the packaging the products we buy does have. We still have more recycling than trash, because we compost our food waste and recycle all paper packaging, aluminum, metal cans and glass. It's not easy to find things that aren't packaged to some extent, so I don't feel too bad about buying things in packaging that can be recycled......
