Default Fios - See recent news

I know that many folks in North and (some) in South Broadlands want to see Fios in the community. **Currently Fios is available in Brambleton and Herndon**

Since Adelphia is now a part of Comcast (serving North Broadlands), it might have some possitive implications.

In June 2006 Verizon filed a FEDERAL LAWSUIT agst. Montgomery County's bias toward's Comcast...the agreement is tentative

Well, in our case, it's not that there's any bias; it's simply that Verizon doesn't want to spend the money to dig through rock. Until they can sucker in some local government or even the state to pony up some money so they don't have to, FIOS simply won't happen here in Broadlands. Verizon knows that there's no other competition except Adelphia/Comcast here, so they're not threatened... Look how long they have been able to keep true DSL out of our Central Office, and thus our community as a whole...

Since I worked for Verizon I know that they want to dominate Loudoun County, since it's in their "corporate backyard" and they do own the CO/Wire Center (near Smith Switch)... due to tariffs, distance from Dslams and the acquisition of multiple DSL companies it did take a long time for DSL.

Here is a legal brief from the SCC where, Openband talks openly about the dark fiber Verizon already has in and around Landsdowne and Broadlands. It is a bit dated, but does shed some light on the Verizon fiber (SONET) network in Loudoun County. Granted Openband is a much smaller competitor (about 1100 homes) than Adelphia/Comcast.
