Thank You From The American Red Cross

red cross

Dear Broadlands Association, Inc.

The American Red Cross, the patients we serve, and I personally would like to thank you for   sponsoring the Friday, August 30 blood drive.

Through the dedication of Broadlands Home Owner’s Association, we were able to collect 17   productive pints of blood with 18 individuals presenting to donate!  Those blood donations have the potential to save 51 hospital patients who rely on our combined efforts for life-saving blood.  It is only through the support of groups like yours that we are able to continue this life-saving endeavor.

Again, thank you for your support of the Red Cross blood program.  Please send my thanks to everyone who participated in the drive and let them know that they are silent hometown heroes.  I look forward to working with you in the future!

Best Wishes,

Judy Kordella

Halloween Costume Drive

This summer, Broadlands is supporting a Halloween costume drive to benefit Let’s Help Kids. Nine-year-old Rachel Harris started Let’s Help Kids (LHK) in 2010 when she was 6 years old, with a mission to help elementary-school aged children whose families are experiencing financial hardship. LHK, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, provides them with special items or experiences that they otherwise could not afford. Let’s Help Kids targets children in K-6 grade, from Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties. While many organizations provide food, shelter and financial assistance to struggling families, LHK provides non-basic needs, such as birthday presents, Halloween costumes, bicycles, dance or sports lessons, books, or movie or amusement park tickets. LHK relies on monetary donations to purchase new items for children in need. Since its beginning, LHK has raised more than $60K and provided gifts to more than 500 children. Costumes collected will be resold this fall at a nominal price. The funds collected will enable LHK to help more kids. You can drop of your gently used, cleaned and bagged Halloween costume into the LHK collection box at Broadland’s Nature Center, located at 21907 Claiborne Parkway, now through August. More information about LHK and their events can be found at www.letshelpkids.org.

Community Meeting – Belmont Ridge Road Widening Project

Last year the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved funding to widen Belmont Ridge Road to four lanes between Broadlands Boulevard and Truro Parish Drive.  This widening project will include a traffic signal at the intersection of Truro Parish.  Supervisor Williams plans to facilitate a community meeting on this project next week:
