No, they didn't charge me that time. I would have been majorly upset if they did. I would have contacted BBB if they tried to charge me.

Ashburn Service Center is over by the Ashburn Village Giant. They have always seemed to be very honest. They even plugged a leaky tire for free once. Nice people all around. Good luck!

So far the management is responding how you might think... very apologetic and willing to fix the issues. My bigger concern is with the general business practice that this seems to represent. I would call it fair to say this has become a negative pattern, just judging from the un-scientific response rate this thread has gotten... with similar experiences. We are taking the car back there tomorrow for the management to review. There will be I am sure a discounted price for repairs now that this had been escalated but - in my opinion - the damage is done. If any of the staff read this then it will not be hard to see what is happening to their business... we shall see. The work that they identified that needs to get done to pass inspection is over $500 so no one is happy to face that... and deal with it in less than 14 days.

    Zeratul/Dave,
Perhaps you'll see my husband there tomorrow when he brings our car back in. He called and they said they'd look at the break smell issue but were not apologetic or even concerned about it. Of course this was just whoever answered the phone when my husband called. Which manager did you speak to?
I agree, it looks like quite the negative pattern of business practices.

I wonder if it is the same employee each of you has dealt with. I don't know how these places work but maybe there is one (or a couple) of people who try to make some extra bucks off customers. Once it is escalated to management level you'll find out if that is company policy or poor employees. Or not. I've heard negative things about this Goodyear but have not KNOWINGLY been ripped off. Coulda been, though.

It's always hard for me to tell about auto dealerships because I'm a woman and always think the repair guys (anyone ever had a repair gal???) think I'm an easy mark. When I lived in Texas I had a Quick Lube type place that I really liked because the people there worked very hard at providing excellent customer service. The place was clean, the employees were friendly and polite, and the manager seemed to take a real interest in whether or not customers were more than satisfied. I miss that place...

thanks Steve I will check it out. The manager I was dealing with for most of this was Mike. Tomorrow we are headed back to deal with Derek... he is the overall service manager I believe.

I had an issue there as well and they lost my trust. 2008 Highlander, I've had 3 oil changes (all done there) and it starts dripping oil on the driveway. I tell them to check it out and they said, "boy, I don't know who did your last oil change, but they failed to tighten the oil filter and it was leaking." I wasn't happy and neither was he when I told him they've been the only ones working on it. I will not go back now. Currently looking for a place close to my work in Reston.

We had a bad experience as well, not nearly as bad as other posts. We had two new tires put on a used car we had just purchased...previous owner used fix- a- flat and screwed up the balance. We asked them to replace the bad tire that was on the back, but rotate the tires so the new tires were on the front. When I went to pick up the car, it was clearly obvious the bad tire was not replaced, just the front two. (The bad tire had about ten weights on one side, anyone could tell which tire needed to be replaced!) When I pointed this out they said it would take two hours to correct the problem because they were "busy".... I informed them(loudly, in front of other customers) they had fifteen minutes. Next thing I know they have my car up on a jack changing the tire. I guess they knew better than to mess with a Mom who needed to pick up her kids from school!

We all have to be more responsible and knowledgeable when it comes to our vehicles. As far as auto mechanic shops the Goodyear is one of the best in regards to employees and management.

I have experienced problems there also. Went in to get something fixed and supposedly my battery was bad and needed immediate replacement. Took the battery to Advance Auto Parts and it tested fine.

We should trust no auto mechanics. The whole idea is based upon ripping unsuspecting customers off.

    Typical.
    $99.50 Computer Diagnostic
    $90.00 hour Labor Charge
    $25.39 Parts
    = $214.89 Total Rip Off

I wonder if there is an oversight board somewhere in VA that could do an investigation. They could bring a perfectly good car that should pass inspection and see what Goodyear says it needs. Then fine them a ton of money and pull their authority to perform inspections if they are scamming. Anyone know of such a place? Or the news media could do their own investigation-they love this stuff!

At least the threat or thought of it might keep Goodyear on its toes for awhile.

Perhaps a local news station would be willing to take up this cause as part of an investigative reporting assignment

Yeah, my favorite repair place was owned and run by a repair gal. It was Corner Garage in Sterling. She eventually married the guy who owned Absolut Auto which was nearby. They have merged the two businesses and have dropped the Corner Garage name. Absolut Auto is very good and have always done reliable work on-time.

I brought my daughter's car to the Goodyear by Shopper's Food in Ashburn and they royally screwed it up. I brought in for two tires and an inspection. During the inspection they claimed there were more problems, and failed the car. I authorized a repair and it escalated from there with problems with the wiring in the steering wheel, the horn burned out, and more. It took them a week to break/fix/re-break/and re-fix the car. I complained mightily and didn't have to pay for the majority of the charges beyond the initial tires & inspection.

I will never go to a Goodyear again.

Gill's Automotive in Sterling (behind Best Buy) is great. They also let you bring in your own oil for an oil change. Nice for me since I like to use synthetic. 703-421-9760. They do inspections also.

Have never been to Goodyear by the Ice House but used to go to the one by Shoppers. Isn't it the same owner? They were nice but definitely ripped me off.

I used to go to Gill's and was always pleased. But one day they were too busy for an inspection so I went to C&C's just down the hill. I've been going there ever since. Always a good job and never a rip off.
