CODY got out last night after 9pm on Ridgeway Drive-He's still a kitten, but tall and skinny, orange with a white belly, blue/green eyes. He's got a mark next to his nose that you'd be tempted to try and wipe off! Here's a picture, call if you see him please! 703-928-9414 or 571-333-7833.

No, not yet. We put signs up, called all the local vets and the shelter and walked around yelling into the storm drains. He must be profoundly lost or worse. He's too young to know how to get home, I'm afraid. It will take some human intervention...thank you!

Someone in the vicinity of Glyndenbourne Court/Laurier Dr. removed all of our signs from that area. Signs were up less than 24 hours and they don't even have the kahunas to call. I bet your neighbors know who you are because Mean people suck.

what a bummer about your signs. :shakehead:

let local dog walkers know- they are great resources since they walk all over the neighborhood! www.woofies.com for sure- I don't know who else walks dogs in the 'hood...

Of course I am a fine one to talk, we still have not chipped our mutt. We really really need to get that done as it is really really (insert more reallys) important.

we used HOME AGAIN to chip Beemer, our Jack Russell. Haven't lost track of him yet to see how good the system is but I am tempted to take him to a neighbors and call then to test the system...

    Hi Everybody,
I'm going to flyer the homes along the storm drains in Southern Walk as a last ditch effort. While I know everyone hates flyers, I can only hope that he's warm and cozy inside someone's home without a collar. And it would be fairly easy to miss a sign. I have a storm drain map if you can believe it, but do want to thank all of you for your kind efforts. Keep good thoughts for Cody!

What about going over to Mill Run and trying to alert the kids as they are getting ready for buses and pick-up this afternoon? Just hold up flyers, show his picture to them... maybe a small reward? Did you lose him anywhere near the school?

Just trying to think of anything... I keep looking from my deck, I have a commanding view of the area around Ridgeway near the school.

    Hi Dave,
Seems like that would be pretty far for him, but I did put some signs up near the school. We're up the hill on Ridgeway, and our storm drains end at Stone Hollow. My biggest concern for him is the wildlife out back, he wouldn't stand a chance against the foxes and owls. He's not afraid of people so if he could, he'd seek them out.

yea good point. I guess it would get too complicated but a trip into the office first may alleviate confusion or concern, or as you say, only look to contact the parents that are around.

May want to redo your fliers. You need a big color picture of the cat, location lost, and your phone number large enough to see from a car (and if there's a reward). When I was at the corner of Claiborne/Ridgeway, the flier posted there was too small to read. When we lost our dog, the dog tracker told us that people aren't going to call if they have to get out of their car to read the flier. There are lots of cats I see going into the storm drains so hopefully your little guy is down there and protected. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for him because I know what it's like to lose an animal.

I think there is a difference between an adult asking a kid "come with me to look for my lost pet" and an Adult asking a kid "have you seen this cat"

Let's not be too paranoid to be able to even talk to kids.

are you serious?? you must not have a minor child. NO STRANGE ADULT needs to approach my kid, especially with what could easily appear to be a ploy even when, like in this case, it's not! if i don't know and trust them, neither should my 10 year old. period. tell the parents of kids who are abducted or sexually abused by trusting a seemingly harmless adult. better paranoid thatn dead or abused.

YOU can stay unparanoid with your minor children Oz- I will remain hyper-vigilant since many people suck and mean to do children harm.

sorry to hijack- i will keep my eyes open for the cat.

I asked kids in the neighborhood where our dog was last seen if they had seen the dog. In fact, our dog was last seen at an elementary school and one of the kids saw our flier and called our house. When we went walking through the neighborhood we took smaller fliers and stopped everyone we saw and gave them a flier. We didn't have any issues with kids running away and parents berating us, but then again, I am a woman (seemingly less of a threat than a lone man) and we didn't engage in a conversation with the kids. It was a flash of the flier, "have you seen this dog?", no matter what the answer was or who it was we gave them a flier and said, "thanks for your help. call anytime." And we moved on. Also want to point out, we didn't go to bus stops and hover for a group of kids. If we came across anyone outside walking, running, whatever, we approached and gave them a flier. Not saying to not be vigilant, but sometimes (as in our experience) it was a kid who was very helpful in finding our dog.
