Not a lawyer, but it's been my experience that you have to have more than one for a mass and at least one for a class.

Anyone care jump in and give the accurate information?

Oh. The way you said 'join' I was under the impression one was already in the works. Would have been curious to see what was written up.

On what grounds? They haven't made a decision. You're going to sue the Board for 'discussing' how to proceed?

I believe it is. Tuscarora will relieve it.

After painfully watching the video, it appears to me that their is significant bias towards the construction of HS 6 on an accelerated basis.

Several board members tried to get the discussion to focus on the excess capacity in Leesburg after Tuscarora is built but noone really wanted to discuss that fact.

On the thought of moving the Lansdowne kids to Tuscarora, Lori Waters kept saying that they would have to be moved back to Stone Bridge after two years otherwise Tuscarora would be slightly above capacity.

Anoter concern was raised that if the Lansdowne kids went to Tuscarora then too many lower socio-economic kids would be going to Heritage which would be problematic for that school. They said that 50% of the kids at Heritage would be lower socio-economic but the school would only be at 87% capacity. Apparently the redistricting splits up the lower socio-economic kids between LCS, Heritage and Tuscarora.

With regard to HS 6, there was no discussion on what that school will do to the boundries currently being discussed. They did discuss that HS6 would have an 8th grade class for a few years similar to what Stone Bridge did when it first opened.

I was very surprised that the county only runs a five year projection for student enrollment. It is not clear to me how many schools are really needed for the current population in Eastern Loudoun. I would have thought the school board would have 5, 10 and 15 year projections to ensure they do not overbuild schools.

    All,

No decision has been made - and the Board of Supervisors are still listening and learning. I am in agreement with Cliff... lets keep sending those letters! Remind them you don't want to see wastefull spending on a HS that is not needed early. In a time they don't know how they will even fund next years budget, how can they build another school that will also need to be funded once open! We have a lot of teachers in our community who are worried about even having a job next year. Thats right, your childrens teachers in our commuity don't know if they will have a job next year.... but yet there is talk of building things that aren't needed yet. This is absurd!! Remind them the effect it will have on your taxes. They MUST stay accountable to those that elected them in. Make sure you send to ALL Board of Supervisors, not just the one who represents you.

If you have sent an email, awesome! Make sure your spouse does. Make sure your neighbors do. Have your child send an email with how this effects them. Emails can come from anyone in Loudoun County, it effects us ALL.

The final decision will HAS NOT been made so please let the BOS know how fiscally irresponsible it is to move HS-6 up when it is not needed.

and what does that matter? do they think kids with less money have learning disabilities or behavioral issues that will hold back the kids with wealthier families? do they think "poor" is contagious?

i think i need a little clarification on why income matters...

It was to do with a school's ability to meet their benchmark tests, (per the video) They said it wasn't the only factor, but a factor.

so--- poorer kids do worse on tests? what benchmarks have been measured based on income? sorry, still not getting the correlation...

i'm not completely thick- i DO get that parental involvement and ability to provide an environment that encourages healthy study habits contribute to their success in school- i just can't see that line being drawn by how much money mommy and daddy make.

lots of wealthy kids have too many distractions and too little supervision to do well in school. lots of poorer kids are too busy raising younger siblings and taking on domestic responsibilities to focus on schoolwork.

lots of wealthy kids have involved parents who take an active interest in their success. lots of poorer kids have parents who know education is their key to doing better for themselves, so they stress it and give their kids every opportunity to do well in school.

am i the only one confused by this seemingly classist factor in zoning??

I agree completely; Just spitting out what I saw in the video. I think it may have to with the SOL's, etc. Not sure entirely- perhaps somebody more familiar could speak more knowledgeable on this than myself.

This problem is also easily solved....move Lansdowne, as a community, to Heritage. Plan 564 does this and shows no capacity issues for many years.
But that, of course, will be even LESS acceptable to the Waters.

There is NO NEED TO EVER have to move Lansdowne back to Stone Bridge. There are NO FACTS that support this argument.
Facts are those pesky things that ruin a good lie.

By the way, after watching the video I thought one of the supervisors acted like an absolute child. Its amazing to me how personal she took constructive criticism or suggestions if somebody doesn't agree with them. It was actually really dissapointing to realize that this was an elected official.

Trolling? Taking the high road? Ok, please tell me on what grounds you would sue the Board as of today. What decision have they made, what have they voted on as of today (in regards to the HS rezoning), that you could sue them for?

While I'm ticked off at the way the Board is handling this situation, they haven't done anything that anyone can 'sue' them for..... YET. While I respect your right to want to sue for what you believe is right, I think it's a bit premature to bring all this up when there hasn't even been a decision made as of yet. You want to prepare in case they do screw up, that's fine and dandy, but let's try to fix things BEFORE we have to go that route. Instead of jumping up and down with the mighty "Let's sue!" banner, why not try to fix things before they occur.

You sir seem to be the one 'trolling'...
