Is there some product that can be sprayed on the location where the dog peed that will help neutralize the chemical reaction?

That might also be a solution. Just like I have to carry poop bags to pick up the "solids", I could bring a small bottle to take care of the "liquids".

Do they make such a product and is it sold in small enough bottles to make it easy to carry while on walkies?

without owning and walking a pet, you'd have no way of understanding that they will lift their legs when they walk- period. YES i know- some are trained hardcore and only elimniate on command- that is a tiny % and always will be.

i already don't allow my dog to pee on flowers or walk on lawns, i cannot always walk on the trails due to allergies and sometimes i simply don't wanna- and even if i DID use the trails for every walk, we still have to take the streets to get there.

there is a difference between inconsiderate pet walkers and unrealistic expectations. people on this board seem to go to ridiculous extremes sometimes... :screwy:

live in a place that doesn't allow pets if you don't want to see dog waste (not YOU specifically, JLC- but you in general) believe me- as soon as my kid is 18- I'm moving to a zip code with no schools!

I love the way you linked dog waste with schools. If you hate cats, do you avoid zip codes with fire departments?

I'm assuming you did not mean for them to be linked but it read funny nevertheless...:)

It would be totally wrong to link children with dog waste. They are not anything alike

One is a pile of biological matter that does nothing but lay there and smell bad.

and the other comes out of my dog's butt.

    LoL

HA! I didn't catch that... i do not link dog poop and public schools, though if you asked my SON he would make that connection when they serve burritos... :pofl:

I understand the situation where someone is allowing their dog to pee on your property and creating yellow spots. That would make me mad, also. I can't help but wonder if the people who always complain about dogs on this board are cat owners...

However, I gotta tell you, the amount of complaints I see on this board about barking pets in general is amazing. Would you really not expect there to be dogs in a family oriented community? Some might find kids' laughter and shouts in their own backyards annoying but we can't boycott the owning and raising of children in our community. Can we? I digress...

I think the bigger problem in our community is actually cats. You heard me - cats. I'm allergic to them and the entire community is guilty of a lack of consideration to my medical condition.

The lack of oxygen to my lungs is a FAR more serious issue than the few dead spots on lawns or loud barks at night. Out of respect for me, please place your cats or kittens out at the curb so that they may be picked up and recycled into dog food.

    Thanks!

Yes you can when it violates noise ordinances - which often the barking complaints are about late at night when the ordinances are in play.

I'm just not sure how much is actual noise violations vs. just no liking any noise not created within your own household. If there were really a violation you would think it could be proven and the matter resolved without involving all us.

Bringing up dirty laundry on a public board is a little more drastic than talking over the fence with your neighbors. I'm actually seeing addresses and pictures being posted on some of these threads which seems to go a little too overboard for me. Give the addresses and photos to the HOA or the police, not to us! Asking for us to publicly flog a neighbor is not something we should condone.

So, let's get back to the real issue - cats... I'm pretty sure if you look at the scalp of any feline you will find the inscription '666' and I bet if we eliminated all the cats in the neighborhood the dogs would not bark any more.

Actually, just a few nights ago, my dogs alerted me to three kids walking near our house at 1:00am. Not sure what they were up to but I'm sure my dog kept them away from my house...

I have a cat that I would LOVE to be able to do that with. Anyone want a free cat? Well, not really. But if anyone is interested... :rolleyes3:

I've gotten lazy about this of late, but will go back to doing it now that I've read this thread. I walk my dog in the street until I get to the common area and let her do her business there. She will not go in the street, she wants the grassy area. Our street is not too busy, so this is doable. I realize it wouldn't work for everyone.
And, when she poops in the common area, I CLEAN IT UP. For some reason, many people think that you don't have to pick it up if it's not on someone's lawn. Not true. I am astounded at the amount of dog poop in the common areas that I have to alert my young kids to, so that they don't step in it when we are out for walks.

What I don't understand about this is that in the neighbourhood there are dog poop bag dispensers and trash cans along the street.

How much easier can it be made for dog owners? There is no excuse for leaving doggie dirties around.

Interesting thought, in our case you are dead wrong.

I am the owner of 2 dogs and I like to think I am a respectful & responsible dog owner, like most of my neighbors.

Did you ever stop to think the those who complain about various bathroom habits of dogs & the barking are owners like myself, who are fed up with irresponsible and inconsiderate dog owners?

With dogs, the problem often starts with the "other" end of the leash.

We used to call the yellow yard spots "little alien landings".

I just wanted to let everyone know - not ALL dogs who pee leave that yellow spot. We used to have a male, and our yard was FILLED with yellow spots. Now we have a female and we don't have one yellow spot at all. Not sure why though....anyone out there have thoughts about that?

Also - I see dog owners ALL the time let their dogs wander up on neighbor yards to pee and poop! I find this really disturbing myself. In fact - I was coming home one evening from walking my dog and saw a neighbor who let her dog wander on another neighbor's lawn and the dog pee'd and pooped. I called out to her that I didn't think those neighbors would appreciate your dog doing it's business on their yard. Well if looks could kill, I'd be dead and she mumbled something I didn't hear. I've seen her kids do it, now I know where they get the habit from. I might mention - those dog owners who walk their dog with those horrible retractable leashes and let their dogs 20 feet in front on them - well that just goes to show you who runs that house. I'm also glad we don't have a sidewalk in front of our house.

If they want to walk their dog on people's yards.. they should walk them in their own backyard. If you don't want to have your dog doing all that in your yard, why would you think someone else wants YOUR dog doing it on theirs?

If you want to walk your dog in open areas - go for it.

If you don't want to be inconvenienced in going that far because you have none near your house... shouldn't you have thought of that before getting the dog?
