I get mine online, local places have huge markups. I went to MyEyeDr near wegmans and they wanted like $400 with insurance for normal single vision lenses. I got 3 pairs online for about $60... but I'm cheap 8)

I just went to Clary Eyes in Ashburn Village, by Harris Teeter. They were wonderful!!!! Went there on a referal from another baseball mom. Before that we went to the eye doctor in Ashburn Farm - Dr. Bermel's office. Every 6 mos. to a year they have a new doctor and never have we seen Dr. Bermel. (We never saw the same doc twice.) Also, they push the most expensive frames, lens, etc..... They knew what my insurance paid and then only showed me things over that amount. Just not for me.

Lucky you for missing Dr Bermel. I love Ashburn Eyecare in the Village.

I've taken my kids to Dr. Bermel's for the past three years. We always see the same lady doc - can't remember her name. She's very nice, very patient. We go for the exam only. I get the written Rx from them and take it to Costco for the actual glasses & contact lenses.

Ashburn Vision Source, near the IHOP (Ashburn Village Blvd/Farmwell Road intersection) is good. I had been to Dr.Hinkle's office 2 times in the last 2 years.....

I am not sure if their frames/lenses are priced reasonably...

In my case, with insurance they charged me around $450.....

JLC, have you really seen the same doctor for the last three years? at the ashburn office? we have been going there for years and the doctors have always been different. the front desk staff has always been the same, and Renee is always there. (not a big fan of Renee, but could just be our personalities clash. She's too pushy for me)

Yes. The blonde woman - Dr. Erin Vogt. My kids have seen her for every appointment since August 2006.

Like many Doctor offices it is not alarming to me to have several Doctors on staff. Many times if you have an eye emergency the same day you can get in when you need to. That has been the case twice when I have had an eye emergency.

Don't forget there is a Leesburg office too, not just Ashburn. The Doctor's work both offices, like Dr. Bardwaj. I have seen her and Dr. Vogt. Both are excellent.

What I love about this office is Janet, who has most answers to everything, is honest and efficient. But more, I have had the pleasure of using the Gentle Moulding program there. I need no corrective lenses during the days after sleeping in gas permeable contacts that have been moulded by my specific eye prescription. This has been excellent for vacations and snorkling, sunglasses, etc.

Check out this office. It is worth it based on my experience!

Ditto on Ashburn Vision Source. I think I got the recommendation to go there from Broadlands Forum. I was very pleased with the exam, front office help, insurance help, and the eyewear selection.

p.s. I use to go to Bermel in Ashburn Farm

Dr Hinkle at Ashburn Vision Source HANDS DOWN!!! He is great!!! My entire family wears glasses and my 11 yr old even got his contact lenses from them. He is thorough and very patient and soft spoken with the kids.
I dont usually get my glasses there though - they can get a bit pricey - just the prescriptions - Costco has the best price on glasses specially when you want multiples for the kids.

    Just fyi,

We've worked with Dr. Baradwaj always, and I agree, Janet is pretty good to work with as well. But when we called a couple of weeks ago to schedule we were informed that Dr. Baradwaj was no longer working in Ashburn or Leesburg. I believe Dr. Vogt is also no longer with the practice, I may be wrong. Having several docs on staff is one thing, but having high turnover is entirely a different matter.

I work for the American Academy of Optometry and my vision care is only covered if I see an OD that is a Fellow of the Academy. I went to Dr. Bermel's office and asked his staff if he was a member of the AAO. They said they had no idea and I would have to look up that information on my own. They were quite rude about it too.

On another note, Vision Source as a company is a strong supporter of vision research and education. They also support young ODs that are just getting out of school and want to open a practice. I would highly recommend them.
