I'm guessing Foodie can help you. You can PM her through the members list if she doesn't see your post.

It appears that in Virginia you can only get raw cow milk from a cow that you "own".

If this is true, then you best hope is to find a "cow-op".

    For the laws cf http://www.realmilk.com/milk-laws-5.html#wv

It appears that the only people who can get Raw Cow Milk in Virginia are the cow owners/family or "guests" however that can be defined.

But it appears that no one can sell Raw Cow Milk in Virginia "to the general public" Hence cow-ops as a way to get around the law.

    Re: Raw Milk?

    esubscribe and others--

Yes, Ozgood and Maureen, that was "udderly silly" or in Ozgood's case--"moove on"--;):nono::pofl:.

Anyway as far as raw milk concerns, yes, we have dairy cows and the research that was presented here is correct about raw milk in VA and MD areas. If you read my past posts on the "Area Restaurants..." thread, under the post called "Raw Milk (Unpasteurized & Unhomogenized)...", you will see a resource list of information for you to peruse. Specifically, read my posts dated 01/12/08 and 01/13/08 for resource information.

We have a small herd of Dexter cattle which is a "dual-breed" for milk and meat. The Dexters produces milk with 4.5 percent fat and boy is it good! We have 16 cows currently.

Back to "cow shares" and "cow cooperatives", yes, it is legal to "own a share" of a cow on a farm. The farmer tends to the vet bills, etc. with the "owners" monies. The "owner" then can legally purchase raw milk.

Our kids (my hubby and I) drinks raw milk from our Dexter cows and there are no issues.

If you need more info, PM or post on the "Raw Milk..." that I started under "Area Restaurants...".

    Thanks--

    Foodie:happygrin:

    Ozgood and others--

Do you know when to throw out cow's milk? When it has a "peculiar udder"!;)

Also, I read that the Secret Service surrounded Obama with cows recently. They wanted to "beef up" Obama's security.:shakehead:;)

    Back to farm chores--

    Have fun--

Are you trying to "horn" in on my cow puns?

Or are you just trying to get Bossy on me? :)

Anyway, not to milk the puns too much, what's the deal with Raw Cow Milk.

Some say it is great, some say it is bad. Did science ever make up their minds about cow milk and autism?
