not in NEEEbraska they weren't! only my senior pics had that option but that's b/c they were done by professional studios, not in the school.

for the record, by my senior year, i needed no airbrush- the jheri curl and acne were gone, leaving me looking PERFECT all my own... see?

Are you seriously equating airbrushing a photo to dealing with hard times? Maybe the caption is right about not hiding pics in a drawer. I vivdly remember 2 school pictures of me that my parents showed not as me as a handsome young lad but:
    - how dorky I looked where I forgot it was picture day and I was wearing an "Over-the-Hill-Gang" Redskin t-shirt.
    - where my hair looked like I had some weird wedge in it from the wind blowing it weird on my bike ride into school. This would have been a real good pic if not for that.

If there was a choice of airbrushing back then, I would have hoped my parents would have had my hair fixed if possible.

WOMEN is the key word. not 11 yr old gangly preteens that are already prone to self image issues...

So airbrushing could potentially fix an 11 year olds "image issue" for a simple school photo that he may normally otherwise try to hide from his friends. But not getting it done could lead his friends and others to potentially ridicule hime for his picture.

I mean, back in my youth other kids would pick on other kids for that type of photo, I am SURE that doesn't happen now. ;)

Then why do most women still use make-up? As an adult I am sure most women do not have those same self-image issues an 11 year old would. :rolleyes3:

What message are you trying to convey? It is okay for adults ONLY to improve their image?

Maybe we ask the kids if they would want a facial imperfection, espescially if it is a temporary one, airbrushed out.

yes i am. but the bigger issue again, is promoting healthy self image, and parents NOT sending the message to their kids that their imperfections are a problem. AIN'T NOTHIN' PERFEKT! isn't that a little early to be so concerned about airbrushing??

i find a little imperfection to be charming. The Boy's pic last year showed him in his cool shirt and grown up pose- with green ink on his arm where he drew on himself. I'd NEVER airbrush- it- it reminded us that he was still a little kid doing dumb things like drawing on himself in the 5th grade. In his 1st grade pic, he had an out of control curl standing up alfalfa style. perfect pic, no- but i love the REALITY of it.

And as most of us do Rene, you have hundreds if not thousands of those photos you took yourself. I honestly doubt having ONE picture a year potentially touched up will cause any image issues with most, it not all children. These kids know that the pictures are mostly for the parents, not for them.

in high school i had huge self image issues and used make up to hide my face. as an adult i use it to enhance my better features. in nature- the MALE gets the plumes- peacocks, lions, blue jays- males have the attractive features, females have the plain ones. so we jazz ourselves up- that is totally unrelated.

look- i am not an extremist. i use make up. i've even had surgery. I AM NOT AGAINST those things for adults.

i am against a company splashing RETOUCH and AIRBRUSH and "be proud with your retouched pic instead of ashamed of your REAL one!"

I completely agree that elem school pictures don't need to offer airbrushing - however - maybe the kids can learn from this that the printed pictures they see everyday HAVE been altered, and girls can learn not to compare the image in the mirror to the one in the magazine?

Ads, they accomplish what they intend to most of the time.

Beauty products try to sell an enhanced version of yourself and again, based on the money spent they have accomplished that. Dove is trying to sell itself as "natural" and will most certainly accomplish what they want too.

Most women even "touch up" areas that are even rarely seen.

So please forgive my not understanding why some here would NEVER touch up their kids photos but they themselves touch up most every day.

Let's change it a bit as freckles are fairly common and most people do not pick on others kids about them these days.

How about, "Mom, can we have this wart on the end of my nose that grew 2 weeks airbrushed out for the school pic?"

"No Susie - why would mommy do that, she loves you, warts and all! And you should be proud of that wart, not all kids get big ones like that right in the middle of their face. I am so proud of you and your wart Susie."

Look, I am not saying to airbrush just for the sake of airbrushing but there are probably a lot of parents who will get it done and for hopefully most for valid reasons.

You have your reasons, they have theirs. I do not think any less of those who do it or any more for those who don't.
