This morning I received a report about a suspicious van that is driving around the Overland park area, specifically on Markham and Fullerton. This van has been seen on 2 consecutive mornings around 5:15am driving under 5MPH up and down the street parking in empty driveways and watching as people are leaving their homes. The van appears to have no other business in the area and has been reported to the Sheriff's office. If you witness this or any other unusual activity please call the LCSO immediately.
Also please make sure all exterior lights are working and all doors are being kept locked. Most importantly please pay attention to your surroundings when you come or leave your home.

Can you post any more details on the van (i.e.: make, color, license plate [at least the state])? My much better half or I usually are out walking Fido at in this area at about this time. The only van I have noticed is the WaPo newspaper delivery driver. Hopefully we'll be seeing more Crown Vics. Any additional details would be appreciated. Thanks for posting this.

The last few days have been a white van, but I do not want people to get stuck only looking for that. The van along with the tag number have been called into the Sheriff's office so they are aware of the vehicle. If the people are up to no good they will be caught if they continue to use the same van. However I do not want people to ignore other vehicles that may be doing to same thing if they choose to switch cars.

Staci - I am wondering if this is the same van involved in the Ridgeway attempted kidnap, as you may know a few weeks ago this van attempted to abduct a teenage girl right in front of her home, but this was in the late afternoon/early evening hours.

Wasn't it a van that was involved in the burglary in Overland Park a few weeks ago?

Let's not get too hung up on the "van" part... vans are pretty common. Remember the DC Sniper time when the whole city was looking for a white box truck while the guys were actually in a blue crown vic? Let's just keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. Thanks for reporting this!

Unfortunately I do not have more details other than it was close to Ridgeway & Mapleton earlier this fall. This particular incident was relayed to me by Brassy and I think she could provide more details.

I saw a white van late one night last week at the intersection of Waxpool/Claiborne and something didn't seem right. It was very late at night and they didn't seemed to just be loitering. The van was a white ford (newer) with no windows and no markings on it.

OOps -- I meant to say they were definitely loitering. My first instinct was to call the sheriff, but my husband said I shouldn't make such a big deal out of it. Nice to have the number handy now.

The white van has Virginia plates. It appears to be a 5-8 year old Toyota, but it is difficult to tell at 5:15 AM. The fact that the driver twice pulled into a radom driveway when he saw other cars coming, and then backed out of the driveway after the cars passed is definitely suspicious. I retraced my route 10 minutes later and found the same man driving through another part of the same neighborhood at 5 mph. He was clearly not delivering anything.

Having said all that, I agree with several neighbors who commented earlier not to focus on the van. The same person could be using another vehicle. It was the suspicious behavior (driving around at 5 mph in pitch dark -- 2 days in a row) that attracted my attention.

ashburn583 seems to have gotten a good look at the person/driver and referred to the person as a "he". I hope this person has been caught, as opposed to just moving on to the next place.

Indeed... caught... as in spoken to and hopefully checked out or apprehended... therefore resulting in “case closed.”
