I do love the employees at our Harris Teeter. And I am a sale shopper no matter where I go. Wegman's doesn't really have great sales, but their prices are pretty good. If I bought the same thing every week or if I only bought what I felt like having, maybe I would shop at Wegman's. But I shop whatever is on sale and make it work. I love the buy one get one free at Harris Teeter, but I do like the prospect of crazy low prices on lots of groceries at Walmart. Let the Broadlands Pricing Brigade reconvene!!! Where's APHIONI on all of this?!

HT is a rip off on day-to-day items. I stopped shopping there and now go to Target and Wegman's.
Cat food is a good example - its over $6 at HT, at Wegmans - under $5 and Target is a few cents more.
Some dairy items are the same way. Milk is a buck cheaper, pudding cups are nearly 1.25 cheaper. Walgreens sells recycled TP and paper towels cheaper, so I buy those at Walgreens.

I'm all for sales and coupons, but for stuff I buy on a regular basis, HT is outrageous. I've found Wegman's staff to be just as friendly and helpful, so I have no real reason to shop at HT anymore.

Hrmm... I can wait till next week and buy this product for $2 when I bring in my coupon...Or I can go and buy this product for $2 today, or any day I want.

Getting a 'discount' off inflated prices is no discount. It's false hope.

Those man. coupons I can use anywhere. So why use a coupon and pay $2 when I can use the same coupon and pay $1.50

Drive down 7 and goto Wegmans afgm - you'll be glad you did in the long haul.

I even goto Safeway now for the 9pm 'gotta get one thing' run rather then go into HT. The prices are just that bad. But they are playing off the 'convenience' factor of their locations and milking people who won't go that little bit further.

    afgm and others--

Harris Teeter and Giant Foods grocery stores also accepts Competitor Coupons from retailers--as well as Wal-mart/Super Wal-mart stores. Lowe's and Home Depot (and other hardware/home center stores too) also will price match and accept Competitor Q(s). Just a thought.

Recently, on a sidenote, Wal-mart accepted $10/off $50 coupon from World Market. All kinds of ways to shop.

Have fun--check out the Hot Coupon World site.

But Fridays at Wegmans are always bad. Add to that the holidays coming up and a snowstorm predicted and you've got gridlock.

I waited for an hour and a half at Harris Teeter Friday night. They had one line open.
There were no eggs. No milk. Not a lot of bread. Hopefully everyone got what they needed.
If you know any older folks or anyone else that might need a little assistance in weather like this, remember to check on them- since probably no one else is driving out to help them in this weather!

Judging a store by the crowds on the eve of the biggest snow storm here in probably 10 years? Yeah.. that's sound logic

Did you also 'hear' what the wait at all the other grocery stores were too? Bet they were walk right on through weren't they?

I was at Wegman's today and at 4pm I walked right up to a checkout lane; the customer ahead of me was paying and by the time I put 4-5 items on the 'belt', the cashier was already ringing up my items. I didn't see any lanes with more than one person waiting.

I find the wait at any of the local grocery stores acceptable. As typical with the self-centered populatation we have here, people are upset if they have to wait more then one or two people.

But at all the local grocery stores I visit (Giant on Claibourne, Giant at Ryan Park, Safeway, HT at Broadlands South, Giant in South Lakes, and Wegmans in Sterling) all of them get you through in a reasonable time. Some have more registers open then others - but all of them get you through in a reasonable wait if not walk up.

I find the selection, location, and pricing to be the big deltas for me.

I actually enjoy standing in line and waiting at Wegmans. In fact, I usually pick the longest line (though inevitably they open another lane, which takes people out of my line) because this is more time to myself while my children are in W-kids.

I thought I was the only freak who doesn't mind waiting in line, or even sitting in some traffic! i organize my thoughts, people watch, go over my day or what lies ahead... it's simply not that bad.

if i am in a HUGE hurry, then i go to the end of wegmans near the prepared foods with my 5 or less items.

one of my resolutions last year was to better organize my time so that i am not stressed out or rushed, and what a difference it makes to CHOOSE to do things i have time to do, not cram my day full of chores and duties making NONE of them a pleasure! far easier than losing weight or saving money... :p i LIKE that resolution! think i'll stick with it, it hasbn't even been that hard...

Flynnibus, I'm going to have to disagree with you in regards to one particular local grocery store you mentioned; the Broadlands Safeway. I rarely see them with more than 2 lanes open, even when those lanes have a half dozen people waiting. To put it bluntly, you spend more time in line at the Safeway then you do running in to buy a quick gallon of milk, etc.

This Safeway would get so much value out of putting in a set of 'self-checkout' lanes. I guess the local union won't allow it or something; I can't understand why they don't do that...

While they do seem to rarely have more then 3 lanes open - I've never waited more then a few minutes at best. Most times I go in there, there are 2 cashiers, and the desk person opens up if there is a rush. While seeing long lines into the aisle is not unusual, it's never a long wait.

I can understand if someone wants to run in, and run out, and having to wait because there is only 2 of 10 registers open seems frustrating - but the actual wait is normally not excessive. Meaning - not even enough time to pick up a magazine.

Foodie, does Wegmans accept competitor coupons, price match or double coupons?
Also, at Walmart - where do I go for price matching on groceries? Regular checkout lanes or Customer Service?
What is their mileage max? Are there any grocery stores they won't price match to because they are too far away?
When doubling coupons - is that automatic or do you have to ask?
Finally, any good coupon generators out there for grocery items?
Now that the holiday craziness is over I want to look into doing my homework before grocery shopping. Thanks in advance!
