Stone house at Hillside Park

Was Van Metre required to keep the house standing? If not, I applaud them for not razing it.

 

I think it would make a cool pub. Have a nice pint while enjoying Broadlands Live.

Yes they were. The one thing that they cannot do is tear it down.

 

A resident has volunteered to head up the Stone House Committee.
If/when we get to the point that it is being turned over to the HOA, we will start looking for additional volunteers.

I would be very cautious about making this a place on the national registry. You really need to investigate what it does to the value and division rights of the adjoining properties.

My college roomate came from Charleston, SC. His house was on the national registry...and his neighbors were prohibited from making changes to their homes with out an architectual review.

Don't know if that still holds but you make just be creating that problem. Just because it's old doesn't mean it has historical significance.

 

Then what would the Board do with the $100,000 that comes along with the house? I would either want it to go toward the restoration of the house, or the bulldozing of it. With perhaps a community gym in it's place. Something usable to the community.

 

It would go towards fixing the house. It CANNOT be bulldozed. It is protected, by, proffers to the county, from being taken down.

 

Yes, but assignment of the house to the HOA would not relieve that proffer. It would be extended to the HOA, unless the county was willing to get rid of it. That usually requires a proffer amendment, which costs thousands of dollars, so I don't think the county and/or VDOT would be willing to do it.

 

why wasnt the county on top of VM for maintaining the building? or was maintaining the building not a part of the proffer?

 

Can you get VM out to fix the roof again?

Also, anyone know if any new information about renovating the house?

 

The house is still the property of VM and at this time they have no plans to do any renovations beyond the required (ie keep it there).
If it is turned over to the HOA we will then begin the process of doing renovations.
