Lost recycle bin

Came home from work today on this windy day, we found out our recycle bin was blown away somewhere, only the garbage bin left. Please let us know if you see/find our recycle bin on your property. We live on Wingfoot Court. Thanks.

 

I think a lot of bins went missing yesterday. Ours was no where to be seen by the time I got home.

You can pick new ones up at the Nature Center and if you end up with a bin that isn't yours and no one in your neighborhood claims it. Wipe it down with a disinfectant and bring it to the Nature Center. We will recycle it!

Please remember that you can get a large recycle bin (on wheels) that won't blow away. The trash people will bring it to you for $10!!! We got rid of 3 small recycle bins for the one, great space saver!

 

There are a number of lost bins in the wet lands behind the Nature Center!

Or, they could be bodies.... hard to tell in this light.

Curious...what do you think of having a large recycler on wheels? I called Patriot this week to inquire about the 64 gallon recycle bin for $10. I really do like this idea of a larger and covered toter, BUT we currently have the 96 gallon trash can in our SFH and I envision that a 64 gallon bin would be sort of overkill for recycles? I also wonder if since they are so big/tall it will lead to broken glass as it may be hard to get jars to the bottom? AND I just cannot imagine trying to store another large bin in our already small garage where are always park both cars? Hmmm.

The lady I spoke to said she thinks the collection men actually prefer the wheel toters rather than having to make multiple trips back and forth to the truck when people have multiple recycling bins.

One thing I found intriguing was that the lady at Patriot did say they are working on getting 48 gallon toter cans on wheels (which I would definitely be interested in!!) BUT that those are currently not available to our neighborhood. Bummer. Maybe someone from the HOA has heard of this or would be able to discuss with Patriot??? I bet many homeowners would like an option like this?

I know on our street people seem quite good about recycling but many folks have several extra 'makeshift' bins (rubbermaid, laundry baskets, etc...) AND since they are uncovered, it gets a bit aggravating on windy days like today, when I've already been out there twice chasing the neighbors' diet coke cans and newspapers around the street!

VDB~ We love, love, love the toter for $10. That said, I have a bigger garage....so perhaps the 48 is good option. But for us, we recycle more than we throw out. We put our recyclables in bags also to prevent and/or catch anything broken or leaky. We had at one point, 4 recycle bins taking up way too much space. This puts the stuff vertically, so the footprint is the size of one bin. Maybe HD has toters that are a bit smaller, and maybe not too expensive? Ours is blue, so if you got one and marked it 'RECYCLE', they would pick it up.

 

I second the endorsement of the recyclables toter. We replaced our recycling bin with the toter after the last windy day when our bin went traveling. It's a squeeze in the garage, but if you recycle a lot it's worth it. With the winds today, I wasn't concerned with the recyclables blowing around or losing another bin.

 

I would love to get / purchase a 48 gallon recyle toter. Much better than 2 recycle bin that we are currently using.

 

Call Patriot and they will take care of getting it to you. They don't charge you until it's delivered.

 

We have the 64 gallon on wheels for recycling and 96 for trash. I would love to have them flip flopped. Even without trying, we easily fill and then some our recycle toter each week. With the trash being picked up twice a week, we are lucky to have one bag in there. I've enver had a problem with broken glass etc. Love the fact that I don't have to worry about the recyclables rolling down the street.

 

i have an extra trash can from the days when AAA didn't provide toters to the townhouse owners (i guess we don't generate trash?????) Anyway---do you think if i painted it blue and put a recycle symbol on it, Patriot would figure out it's full of beer cans and recycle it??

 

yes, even if it just has the recycle symbol on it...I have done the same with an old receptacle.

If you are on Welby and lost your recycle bin, look around and see if you find a driveway with 2 or more bins sitting out. For some reason they end up hanging out in my driveway or in front of it and I'm starting to end up with 1 new recycle bin a week.

Good to know I can drop them of at the nature center, which I will start doing.

 

We put our house number on the bin because it's clean and I do not want mine switched with the neighbors bin which is caked with laundry detergent and soda, so it's easy to identify if it blows away.

So dgreene, don't your neighbors notice their bin's missing and could be one of several sitting in your driveway?

 

Apparently some or most don't notice or just continue without them.
I've been in my yard at 6am cleaning up trash from a couple houses down because my house seems to attract things from up the street during windy days.
I've left the bins out in the driveway for a week and no one claimed them except one time when someone from down the street came up and picked one up. I know it wasn't theirs bit figured theirs blew down the street. I now have 2 I don't need and need to wash them out anyway.
