I hosted a Windows 7 party and got a free copy of Ultimate.

I was running the Release Candidate 1 before I received my free copy but if anyone is running the RC1 and intends to install a production release version, you MUST, MUST, do a clean install.

In my case, I used the recovery operating disks that came with my Dell to wipe my drive clean and reinstall Windows Vista.:yuck:

I then did another clean install of Windows 7 production version. Worked like a charm.

BTW, did you know that MS is already working on Windows 8!??!

My next computer will be a Mac... Can't wait to see what the MacTablet will look and feel like.

I think the poster is just pointing out that there are other options. And trying OpenSolaris might be cool. Next time we upgrade to a new computer I'll probably try to install Linux on the old one just to check it out.

And just cause he came late to this party it doesn't mean he can't start drinkin'!

Them is fighting words, Mister! :)

All kidding aside, the writing was pretty much on the wall for Solaris/OpenSolaris ever since Oracle bought Sun. Anyone who thought OpenSolaris would survive wasn't really paying attention and/or were just trying to keep their hopes up.

In the past couple years I've been involved in two major server consolidation/datacenter moves and I can tell you that the general sentiment out there is to get rid of any Sun hardware/software when possible. Whatever remains will get hit with the 'Oracle Tax'; huge fees to generate short-term revenue streams while the OS dies a slow death or until customers get tired of paying Oracle's fees.
