Frame1...I think many Broadlands residents share your sentiments. No matter what you do right, there will always be something wrong. Don't take it to heart and as T8 and others said, just fix what the issue is and move on. It's hard to do when you feel singled out...

    AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!

    Now mow your grass :)
I think everyone here can understand that folks have reasons, whether they are on vacation, family issues, busy life, etc. and can't mow their grass every week…… but letting your grass get over a foot (12 inches) to a point that is is starting to fall over because of the weight and when the wind blows it looks like a field of hay, is no excuse. This is my neighbors grass everyday for the past two years. He did mow this past weekend, so either he read this post or he finally responded to written notices from the HOA. Serving in the military for over 20 years and living all over the world I wouldn’t live anywhere else except in a HOA community, because that one neighbor always gets out of control with purple paint, plastic flowers in the front yard or the car on cinder blocks... that’s why I want HOA and why I am behind them 110% to enforce what we all agreed upon when we built/bought.

I'm not saying living in a HOA community is terrible. Like I said I lived in Reston for 5 years and never heard from that HOA and the area was beautiful and I loved it. All I'm saying is that what I have experienced with this HOA is borderline harassment and I'm tired of it. My neighbor whose property is far worse has yet to get anything which is mind boggling. My property is beautiful and doesn't deserve the attention it's been getting for some reason. I drive through this community and can't believe how many properties are in disarray. Landscaping is terrible and the trim is rotting. I can go on.

I just had to vent because 1) I needed to and 2) I don't deserve this treatment. I love living here but hate the person that feels the need to tell me what to do with my home. My home is beautiful and my neighbors joke about these letters. Like I said I believe one of the inspectors lives here and feels the need to give me a hard time.

Ok my rant is over. It felt great. No need to respond with your sarcasm T8erwhatever. I know you feel like they're friendly reminders but to me it's a waste of a perfectly good piece of paper. They can do something a little more productive. God Bless Broadlands...

So you feel the need to rant here, making accusations that you are being targeted by HOA employees and/or the HOA itself, that you are the only one getting letters, etc, and when others feel the need to respond to your accusations, you simply push them aside since you just wanted to 'vent'.

Sorry, but if you take the time to come here and make statements like that because you 'feel the need to vent', then others who live here will 'feel the need to vent back' and defend themselves and this community from your accusations.

You don't like that? Then go vent elsewhere.

How about this. Send me your address and I will review your file and post all the infractions, along with pictures, here. Then we can all decide who is over the line. The HOA or you. I would kind of like to know.

Ok I think we all need to take a deep breath here.

Nobody is blaming the HOA for anything, even if it seems that way when there is venting.

    No deep breath needed.
This anonymous, person is making some pretty poor insinuations about the HOA. If things are truly as presented then, as an HOA Board member, I want to know about it and will investigate it.
My actual belief is that the lawn was significantly worse than being presented here, and that an investigation of the file would show that as well as document the attempts we made to contact the homeowner to correct the situation before we had to mow it.
But nothing can be done unless this anonymous person is willing to (privately) reveal their identity.

I love how confrontational people can be and I love how certain people reply to every post, even when the issue isn't pertinent to them. Glad to see my HOA Board hard at work solving real problems and fixing real issues. Does this have more to do with budget and funding and less to do with actual HOA rules enforcement? "Write your numbers on your trash cans so we can find out who they belong too after a wind storm." AKA: so we hold homeowners responsible for leaving their bins out. "Lets add towing too for the rampant parking violations." I actually had a tow truck that was about to hook up my truck until he realized I was simply unloading groceries.

I received a letter (with accompanying pic) dated May 21 stating that I am in violation of "Section 7.2- Upkeep of Lots." It was noted that my backyard required moving. The letter said that if the violation is not corrected by May 28, the Association or authorized agents or contractors may enter my lot to cure the violation. No worries, I mowed my lawn that night. Then I get a letter dated May 28 (conveniently no pic) telling me that my property remains in violation. Really? I mowed my lawn the day that I received the letter in the mail. In summary: I get a letter on May 21 giving me until May 28 to fix the violation and then receive a letter dated May 28 telling me that I am still in violation. For the sake of argument, per the HOA letter I had until May 28 to fix the infraction, so if I have until the 28th to fix it, why do I have a letter dated May 28th stating that I am still in violation? Rhetorical question, no reply needed. HOA arithmetic, I get it.

Could the residents of Broadlands please be provided a list of Covenant Inspectors to include their names, their certifications and training credentials as well as inspection schedules?I wouldn't want there to be a double standard.

This is just a general statement, but I'm not getting how anyone would ever get a notice if you just mowed once a week. That is what everyone in my neighborhood does, and if they don't they hire a service to do it! Not sure how you can stand looking at your own yard if it goes beyond a week without a mow, especially with all the rain we've had this spring!!!

    I will be more direct...

I do not think anyone who has complained in this thread will contact you.

I KNOW you would do a professional job!

#1. It costs the HOA far more to do Covenants work that any revenue it generates. We do it because our controlling documents REQUIRE it, and many, many residents contact the HOA asking us to enforce our own rules.

#2. This is so people can find them, not for any enforcement rules. I've ended up with several extra bins at my house (low point on a windy street). If there was a number on it, I would know who to return it to.

#3. Please send me the date, time, and street this occurred. Sounds like an overzealous attempt that I would like to verify and discuss with the towing company. And the HOA does not get any revenue from towing.

Can I move to your block? :pofl:I shouldn't say that, there is only one hood neighbor on my street that tends to mow once a month, when the few patches of grass he has grow above the knees.

Cliff - I apologize to you and to anyone else that was offended by my post. You and Linux seemed to take it a little personal. Something I read struck a cord with me and I overreacted. Happens to the best of us. Clearly I was wrong and I said somethings that were a little abrasive. I'm sorry.

This HOA does a great job in keeping Broadlands beautiful, but you are misunderstanding my issue. The issue is that it does seem, at times, the HOA staff seeks out and hunts for violations. Like there is nothing better to do at the Nature Center. That's my problem. I can understand responding to complaints and blatant violations. Where we live, we have a great neighborhood but the only way to view our backyards is by either getting on a ladder or opening our gates. That to me is a little invasive. Now for the more obvious homes with exposed yards then I understand. Please keep them mowed. So at times I can't help but feel singled out because I can look around this community and see many violations, but for some reason my backyard gets noticed. How? I have no idea. I have a 6' "PRIVACY" fence and the Greenway behind me. I know there are other residents that feel the same. That was my point. Regardless, I always keep it mowed now. I was just venting some old frustrations. I've owned here for a while.

Just to clear something up. Cliff - if you did do some research on my property then you would find a plethora letters and pictures. (I'm exaggerating) The point is why is anyone wasting the time to do it when it's not even noticeable and there are other obvious properties that need the attention. That's why I can't help but feel singled out. Hence, "only a select few?"

Have a great weekend folks and cut your lawns, put bulbs in your light post and make sure your garbage can is out of sight. :minister: It's not difficult but then again we have to give the HOA something to do. We pay them enough. Frame1 is out....I hope
