    Tysons Express Bus Service Schedule

Loudoun County Tysons Express bus service is on schedule to begin service on Monday, June 21, 2010. The buses will operate on two different routes.

Routes and schedules have been developed based on citizens’ comments and suggestions gathered at public input meetings and from a bus preference survey conducted earlier this year.

The first route will enter Tysons Corner on Tyco Road, traverse Jones Branch Drive, head south on Tysons Blvd. and finish on Greensboro Drive. The second route makes all the stops of the first route and includes additional stops at Tysons Corner Center and at Route 7 and International Drive. All bus stops will be clearly designated with Tysons Express signage. Many of the stops used are existing Metro or Fairfax Connector bus stops. Buses will pick up in the afternoon at these same stops.

An “Early Out” Friday mid-day departure is included for the summer to allow riders to get an early start on their weekend plans. The mid-day service will begin picking up commuters in Tysons between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m.

Two departure points in Loudoun County will be used. Riders may board the buses at shelter #6 at the Leesburg Park and Ride lot located on Sycolin Road. Buses will then proceed to Broadlands South and stop at two lots located there. The first stop is at Broadlands Marketplace on Mooreview Parkway near the Greenway. This lot is convenient for walkers and bicyclists. The bus stop will be at the Tysons Express sign on Mooreview Parkway. Commuters should only park in spaces designated with “commuter parking” signs on the side of Harris Teeter (detailed map is included in the schedule below). The buses will proceed to the nearby park and ride lot at Moorview Parkway and Old Ryan, on Old Ryan (Route 772.) Buses will travel on the Greenway and the Dulles Airport Access road, providing a quick trip to Tysons.

All buses are equipped with electronic fareboxes that accept SmarTrip cards or cash. Passenger fares are $3.00 with a SmarTrip card or $3.50 cash, only exact change is accepted. SmarTrip cards can be purchased at the Tysons West Park Transit Station, The Loudoun Government Center, or Metro sales locations.

I've seen the commuter parking between HT & Bank of America. Where will the bus actually pick up passengers?

There is a map with more detail on pickup locations provided at the link John provided above. Here is the text provided with the map:

LOT 1 – Broadlands South ‐ pick up
location is on Old Ryan Road at the
entrance to the park & ride lot.
When lot is full passengers must
    park in Lot 2.

    LOT 2 – Broadlands Market Place ‐
    Overflow/Handicap parking ONLY ‐
pick up location is on Mooreview
Parkway at the turn lane between
Dermott Dr and the entrance to the
    shopping center. Parking is only
    allowed in the spaces with
    “commuter parking” signs.

Is this lot in front of Harris Teeter and bank of America in Broadlands?

The lot between HT and BofA appears to be for overflow parking only. Also, I can't tell if they'll pickup passengers out front of HT everyday or only when the main lot is full. If you download the pdf from the Loudoun County link John provided, you might be able to more definitively figure out how pickup works than I was able to. I'm sure it will all become less of a mystery once we hit June 21st anyway.

Looking at the schedule, it looks like they will stop at both the HT and the big lot on Ryan on each run.

"...pick up location is on Mooreview

Dermott Dr and the entrance to the
    shopping center."

It seems like the pick-up location will be on the Dermott side of HT......

The service is great. Very comfortable ride. It takes about 25 mins to the first stop in tysons. About 40 minutes to the last stop. It costs $3.00 each way and you can work/relax on your commute. there is free wi-fi on board and the schedule is quite flexible to accomodate early birds as well as late workers.

I took it today, I'm sold. Will be taking it every day I don't have to drive. The buses are brand new, has that 'new car' smell. Seats recline back, and are very comfortable. All times were spot on, from pickup to dropoff. It takes the airport lanes zipping all the way past traffic, which was nice this morning since there was an accident around Hunter Mill. Wifi worked great too:

Download Speed: 1208 kbps (151 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 428 kbps (53.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

If you take the greedway both ways, thats $5.25 * 2 + .75 at Tysons = $11.25. Add in $4 in gas thats $15.25 a day.

At $6 round-trip that's $9.25 in savings. Thats about a $185 a month saved, less of course if you take 28 to avoid the greedway.

Also I guess they do pickup by Harris Teeter, they dropped people off there. I went to the other lot where the new fire house is being built.

For those who already took the bus - where is the stop at Tyco Road? Is is nearer Spring Hill Road or nearer Route 7?
I work near Sheraton (where the old Hummer showroom was) and was wondering how far the walk would be...

    Thanks.

Been taking the bus for several months now, if you work on Tysons this is a godsend. I have yet to see the bus be more than 2-3 minutes late for either morning or afternoon pickup. The best part is flying up the airport access lane when the traffic is stop and go in the main lanes. There has yet to be a backup in the airport lane (knock on wood). Its great knowing exactly when I will be at work every morning. The onboard free wireless has been as consistent from day 1, I've yet to see it go down or have any issues.

The supervisor for the project has also come several times on the routes chatting with everyone and answering any concerns. Very cool guy.

Anyway still a huge 2 thumbs up. If you work in Tysons you should give it a try. At ~20 miles each way, just the savings in gas makes up for the three bucks. :)

Thanks for the info. If you don't mind I have a few questions. What time do you typically use the bus? Also...is it ever TOO crowded? Any issues with a lack of room/seats on the bus?

    Thanks!

I get on at the 7:43 stop at the Marketplace in the morning. The drop off times in Tysons are pretty spot on. I've also taken the 8:06 bus. The 7:43 is by far more busy, gets maybe half full. In the afternoon I've taken the first 3 buses out. The later bus again gets about half full. People of course spread out and its not until we hit the transit station until the seats begin to really double up. The earlier/later buses might be more busy.

For payment, putting in 3 bucks is very quick. You can also recharge your card if needed. They don't take credit.

it would have been better if the bus goes close to Towers Crescent in tysons (near marriot).

is there any talk on extending this service around tysons? even the shuttles don't go near this place.
