Witnessed a lifeguard making a save on a small child at the Summerbrooke pool yesterday evening. A small child, around 2 or 3, wandered into the 3 foot deep section. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye, I'll have to say the guard was quick. Jumped out of the tall chair and one-hopped into the pool to pick the kid out of the water. Kid seemed ok, coughing a bit, the lifeguard was looking around for the parent. Mom was standing near the beach entrance chatting. Never even noticed the kid was gone I guess.

Make sure you pay attention, things happen quickly.

Kudos to the guard, good job!

That is not the first time that's happened this year at that pool (and also not the first time that the attending parent was anaware of the save until after the fact). Those guards have been really great this year.

    Yes very good article.

When the 9 year old drowned at Dominion Valley his mom and the lifeguard watched. He was using a snorkel so his convulsions probably looked like some sort of play. Snorkels are crazy dangerous for children.

Are snorkels aloud at our pools?

    Thanks,

My five year old is getting swim lessons from some of the lifeguards at SB. The ones teaching are mostly European and here for the summer. We can't say enough great things about them and the kids love them. My daughter has learned so much in just a 2 week session.

The biggest problam that I wtinesses when in Ashburn farm, was at the baby pools the moms all had the chance to talk and were in the lounge chairs never paying attention. I was sitting on the edge of the pool watching Kaosgirl, as one toddler went under and wasn't coming back up (to young to know how) and another flipped upside down in the floating ring and couldn't right it.

Both kids I saved. meanwhile the mom's still chatted away - clueless to the fact that if I hadn't been sitting there (Like you should be as a GOOD parent) there would have been 2 dead toddlers that day.

Sit on the edge of the pool. they are dangerous, regardless of how deep. If your kid doesn't know how to swim, you cannot even begin to look away.

I'm happy the child was saved from danger.
    Hopefully it won't happen again.

And might I also say that the Summerbrook lifeguards are easy on the eyes??!!

Any very thoughtful. My daughter scraped her big toe on the cement and when we went over to ask for a band aid, he nicely cleaned it, disinfected it and put the band aid on while the whole time making her smile. It was very sweet.

    Oops, sorry.
    Just trying to be funny.
I'm really not tacky. Just a normal stay-at-home mom with a sense of humor. :p
I thought maybe some people would get a chuckle out of what I said, so my apologies if I offended! :nono:

Back to the topic...the pool is great, and we love it.
Kuddos to the pool staff! :)

I thought is was a really funny comment (and true).

I have heard such wonderful things about the guards this year. Hubby mentioned that he felt they are a much higher caliber and far more attentive than in previous years.

For real...they all look like bronzed Abercrombie & Fitch models. It's almost hilarious.
Not really my "type" (my family is more from the pale & chunky department).
Oh, and my husband had a laugh and rolled his eyes at me about the whole thing.
He has a sense of humor too :)

We just moved to Broadlands, and the pool is the biggest perk here. The fountains and sprinklers are a bit hit with my children. Fantastic!

"pale & chunky department" There is a section now? Awesome!!! My people will suffer no more.

Welcome to the neighborhood BTW. If your kids enjoy swimming checkout the swim teams next year. My kids love it and are in fantastic shape by the end of the season.
