Has anyone done Energy Audit? Are you thinking about doing one?

We have been talking about it but I wanted to see what is the experiences of others have been.

Any other energy related changes that worked for you?

    Yep,

    1. Changed out all incandescent light bulbs in house to florescent.
    2. LED lights in front yard light post. I would do LED in the whole house but LED are still to expensive for my wallet.
    3. Turn pilot lights off in gas fire places and gas heaters every year, I know when to relight them, its when the family starts complaining how cold it is at night :rolleyes3:
    4. Installed programmable thermostats.

Saved over 50% on electric bill and about 40% on gas bill per year.

Wow that is impressive on the electric bill. Does this also apply your summer bill with AC being used.

As far as the fire place, we have not used ours for the longest time. It's a big waste I think and it really doesn't work well I think. If we upgraded for a better system probably it will be more efficient but it has not been a priority. Our problem is with heating and cooling is that we have variety of temp. around the house. Too cold or too hot rooms.

I want to move this old discussion up again. Our house is freezing after sundown, I'm guessing the windows are letting in cold air but I am not sure what to do about it. I would like to have someone knowledgable come and tell us what to do about keeping the heat in.

Are there any recommendations on contractors who do enery audits or can figure out why a home is cold?

Also, if anyone has also had the "freezing house" issue and has done something to improve this, what was it and is it something you can do yourself?

    TIA!!

I would recommend http://www.homeenergydetective.com/ this company... Ask for Troy - he is the owner and he knows this stuff better than most people out there ...
