It is going on 7 years old but has never been in an accident and I hate to just put something like this in the garbage. The straps and cover have been washed. Yellow strap protectors are not included. Send me a message and it's yours!

I have numerous Britax car seats from 2004 to present. Being pregnant with our third child, I contacted Britax to order a new cover for both our infant and convertible car seats. They informed me their car seats only have a life span of 6 years (due to the plastic aging, hardening). Therefore, it was expired and they could not provide covers for those seats. I hate to throw our seats out as well, but it's just not worth the risk.

You're right, we had a very similar experience just a few months ago. I had purchased a gently used Britax Regency seat, when I called to place an order for a replacement cover I was told it was no longer in warranty.

Honestly I had no idea (bad mommy) that car seats had an expiration date. Britax even instructed me to take my car seat to a land fill, they emphasized that I should not leave it on the curb or donate it.

I took a pic (with my cell phone) of the NEW Britax labels. It clearly indicates the mfgr date & Do Not Use After date. For the "Frontier" model the in service life is 9 years, but I believe this varies from model. I hope this helps.

I have 3 kids, the oldest is 7, and we only have Britax's for them. Due to the expense as well as the kids' safety, I keep them in the seats until they outgrow or the seats expire. We only have Marathons so we are able to use them longer.

A good trick that I've followed and it's KILLED me to put these things in the garbage/landfill since I recycle, freecycle and donate everything...........cut ALL the straps and dispose of in the inside house trash, cut up cover and with a sharpie write "in accident, not safe" all over the seat. Then you save yourself a trip to the landfill and a child is not potentially injured when someone finds the seat & decides to use it.

Also for future reference, you are not supposed to wash the covers and especially the straps. No, I don't know what you are supposed to do when the child vomits all over the place :eww:, but that's the best practice and what is recommended by the manufacturer. Has something to do with the fire retardant in the material and maybe even the fibers in the straps losing some of their safety.

You can recycle your old car seats- Babies R Us and Toys R Us will recycle them- check their websites. Also, sometimes the police/fire stations will have recycle days. So they don't have to go to the landfills. :)
