I recently replaced an older computer with a new (refurbished) one from Microcenter. I replaced the older one because a couple of weeks ago I shut it down and unplugged it when storms moved in. I must have done something wrong because when I plugged it back in it would not power on. Got the green light on the Mboard but no disk spin, nothing. So I bought a new one since the other one was old anyway.

I decided that since I could get a new power supply for the old pc for about $15 plus shipping (Newegg) I would install it and see if that fixed the problem (could have done that in the first place, I know). So my question is - if I get the machine up and running again, what would be fun to do with it? I could just donate it to someone needy but what other options do I have? I saw the thread about home media servers but I don't think I need to do that. What else is cool?

If you have a telecsope that cen be controlled buy it - there you go!

Try to run odd OS on it, like Ubuntu, or RedHat.

Set it up in the kitchen with cookbook/barbook software on it.

Run SETI @ home, Folding @ home, genome @ home all at the same time.

Build a MAME cabinet and use it to run the emulators

Well, I replaced the power supply but that didn't change a thing. Replacing the motherboard is more than I'm willing to invest, but probably the next option. Anybody want to buy a non-working computer - cheap?

You have a green light on the mboard still when you turn it on? Try removing the battery on the mboard for 15-20 seconds, put it back in then turning it on.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. What does the battery look like? I'll have to Google it like I do everything.

Nevermind - looks like a regular coin type. I bet I can find it.
