Anyone know what project is starting on Waxpool at Loudoun County Pkwy?

I don't know for sure but this is the impression I get: They are extending the third through lane on EB Waxpool back to about where Five Guys is. This would explain why the median is closed at the entrance to the storage facility. Looks like they might also be adding back a second turn lane to turn left onto NB LCP.

I don't see any evidence of it yet, but another improvement they could make is to give NB LCP a dedicated turn lane onto EB Waxpool (with a long merge area). This would allow NB LCP to turn onto Waxpool without waiting for a green, which would also allow longer green time for SB LCP.

 

I doubt this one. It would take a relocation of the light pole at the corner.

 

I'm still guessing at this one. Can't seem to find any final project designs....

 

As this thing develops, I think Gunzour is right - they are extending the third eastbound Waxpool thru-lane back at least to the restaurant strip mall.

And as a bonus item - go to the current Google Maps satellite picture of the intersection and look on the LCP just south of the intersection -there's a jet aircraft seemingly sitting on the Parkway!! The satellite camera must have caught it in the Dulles landing pattern.

 

Traffic on Eastbound Waxpool will be a mess once school opens. It's bad now.

 

I saw it at noon and it was backed up to Smith Switch road....

 

that's pretty cool!

 

Anyone care to make some bets on how bad the backup will be? Ashburn Road is odds on favorite.

 

maybe they'll be done w/ eastbound Waxpool by then.....

 

guess not. Seems to me to be slow progress on the Waxpool construction project.

 

OK, given this long discussion on how to get out of Broadlands and on to 28 - it is time for a fun puzzle contest (well - not a contest - no prizes). Your task - find the shortest (in distance) motor vehicle route from the intersection of Clairborne Pkwy. and Ridgeway Dr. to the Route 28/Dulles Tollroad access point that does NOT include travel on Waxpool Rd. or the Greedway.

Have at it - and good luck. If needed - hints will be offered next week.

 

I am not giving away my secret- but today, leaving the house at 8:10 (I live near hillside elem) I am on 28 by 8:25 and in Centreville by 8:46. NO WAXPOOL. lips are sealed.

well it's saying a LOT if at that time of day you are normally either lined up on LoCo Pkwytrying to turn right onto waxpool- which takes 3-4 light cycles and took me 25 minutes from home to reach 28, or on waxpool even sooner than that- which i haven't done in years.

I don't go near old ox. so sorry flynn, there IS more than one right answer worth mentioning.

 

Does it involve pre-staging a second vehicle and walking across a field???
