That is low! From what I can see here, the SFH are less than the townhomes for some reason. Are you including the sewage usage?

My bill for a TH was $161 for 24k gallons of water and 23k sewage. There's just two of us here most of the time unless my son is home from college. It seems really extreme to me. I don't feel as if I use that much water.

10k of water.. then 10k of sewer. So you are still more then double our water usage.

The sewer usage is just some auto calculation from the water usage and sorta automatic which is why I didn't bother quoting it.

We have HE washers... crappy showerheads that don't flow.. and toliets that barely flush. Maybe the one advantage is they don't use alot of water ;)

So would it be cheaper to buy bottled water and use that to flush with?

Well, I guess it proves that the HE washer and your showerhead and toilets are doing their job! I talked to a neighbor, just the two of them and their bill was only $25. I had him repeat it two times, I couldn't believe what I heard. I am definately doing something wrong! :-(

To revisit this topic, I'm pleasantly surprised that my water bill for the summer months is only $192. I tried to be a little more careful with water usage because of the new rate structure, but I was thinking my bill would be a lot higher.

Last year we used 130,000 and this year only 50,000. Maybe that rain barrel is paying off after all. ;)

I'm very curious what the guy across the street ended up with. He waters his lawn several times a week for several hours at a time.

Ok i really have been burned this year on my water bill. I put in a new irrigation system and had to water it a little more frequently this cycle (every other day) and ended up with a bill of $440. Previously are bill has never been higher than $225 total for both water/sewer without the irrigation system. We live in a SFH (3 adults + 2 kids) but had a lot of folks visiting this summer.

Next year we will only be watering the plants/grass twice a week.

OMG! I am so jealous. Our bill that came in September was over $500! I am at work so don't have access to history and gallons but am definitely going to look when I get home. I am so afraid we might have had an unknown leak in our sprinkler system. It's now completely shut down prior to winterization.

I can't find our actual bill to look at the pricing tiers, but we used 84K gallons for a SFH with 5 people and an irrigation system. Total bill was $506, ~ $425 of that was water.

Make sure you check your sewer usage if you have an irrigation system. If the sewer usage is the same as your water consumption then you need to contact Loudoun Water and get them to adjust your bills for this year. They should look at your winter usage and assume sewer usage to equal the winter period.

My last two quarter's bills have been off by $150 each due to this error. Loudoun Water fixed both bills but you have to call.

Thanks. I wish it were that easy :(. Sewer seems correct as it only varies between 15-19 whereas our water goes between 15, 35, 55 and now 84.

The water company actually came out to our house and told me i probably had a leak in the house. sure enough- 2 of the toilets needed to be fixed. went to home depot, got the little flapper kits, and voila! no more leaky toilets!

Were the toilets causing you to consume a great deal of extra water? Other than worrying about the irrigation system, I'm also curious about our new bar's ice maker. It seems to run water constantly to make new ice, so we have it turned off quite a bit now until we actually start using our basement.

We had a dedicated ice maker and it ran constantly, ours did not have any refrigeration to keep the ice cold, it just made ice and dumped it into a bin. I assume yours is like that. Ours was off more than it was on.

Based on the new tiered price system, if you have an irrigation system, I'm not surprised your bills were in the $500 range. The new pricing structure is brutal.
As a result, I did not water my lawn this year.

My bill is $427 and we have an irrigation system. I'll have to check with Loudoun Water and see if we're being billed appropriately. We used 73,000 gallons of water. Yikes!

    25 gallons at Tier 1: $1.77 per 1000 gallons
    25 gallons at Tier 2: $4.96 per 1000 gallons
    23 gallons at Tier 3: $6.65 per 1000 gallons

I'm also concerned about the amount of water wasted while waiting for the water to get hot upstairs. A lot goes down the drain in the time it takes for the shower and sinks to get hot water. Has anyone used a recirculating pump to help speed it up?

Do you mean if the sewer and water usage is the EXACT same? For example, my water usage was 24 and sewer 23. Does that mean I have a problem, or is that normal?

Ok thank you so much for mentioning the sewer issue, though it is not the problem for me :(.

They just really stuck it to us with this new "tier system" as before there was a flat rate of $1.82 regardless of consumption, we now have to pay $6.65 for the highest tier usage. Have to love monopolies.

Guess next year we won't water the lawn as much and just have dead grass.

They didn't stick it to you - they made people who use more... pay more.

The alternative is to raise everyone's baseline prices. Instead of penalizing everyone for the extreme end... the extreme end pays for their choice to be the extreme end.

SFH family of FIVE.. and we just went 2 units over the bottom tier.
