Why do we even have that post office? Why don't they just move it down to the old AOL post office which has way more space and is hardly used now that AOL isn't shipping disks.

Yes. That's exactly what I meant, as I had on few occasions witnessed what the original poster of the scool bus situation described, while waiting for the bus to move.

To the little blond kid who was scootering down my driveway this afternoon (between our cars) and brazenly walking through the backyard: GO HOME AND DRIVE YOUR OWN PARENTS NUTS AND GET OFF MY PROPERTY!

Is it to much to ask that my fellow motorist pay attention to their driving and not so much to the cell phone, ipod, map or any shiny objects in your vehicle.

OHH....how brazen!!!!!!!! Send out the attack dogs!!!!
Sheesh. Fence the darn backyard if you're afraid of a few unwanted footsteps.
Or maybe actually speaking to the child and asking him not to damage your grass will solve the problem.

I don't think it's cool to write such a snarky response, this person (HelloKitty) is obviously frustrated with this kid's lack of respect for her driveway & yard.

Personally speaking, I think it is more than brazen to walk through someone else's property (yard and driveway) without the property owner's expressed permission and in some cases it is trespassing (per Virginia Code ยง 18.2-119).

Unfortunately in this neighborhood, if you talk to some of these kids about their behavior they will either retaliate or tell you to F off or curse you out for having the audacity to speak to them. Some kids in this neighborhood have a sense of entitlement and gee I wondering where they get that from?

I do not think the occassional TRESPASSING (overboard) through one's yard by kids is anything to get excited about. If it happens a lot and if there are pets involved then maybe, maybe. Houses here are pretty much on top of each other and it is going to happen.

I am not worried about him damaging my grass (it was the side yard and back patio he was scootering around on and it wasn't being damaged). It bothered me that he had about 1 foot of clearance between our cars in the driveway to ride his scooter down...personally, I don't want to worry about some little kid scratching up the side of our cars in our own driveway (in addition to the possibility of getting sued)! I was going to go say something to him when I saw him but he darted out in traffic before I had a chance to say a word! Then my husband was sitting out on the patio and the kid comes cruising up our side yard and just looks at my husband. Husband: "are you lost kid?" Kid: "uhhh, no." Husband: "Whatcha doing here?" Kid: "..." Scooters off. I'm just sayin', kid needs to find his own driveway and backyard to play in.

A couple of neighbor kids were riding skateboards and scooters down our driveway and into the street the other day. I know the kids and the parents (although not really well). While it didn't bother me in a major way I was surprised since they really shouldn't be doing that on someone else's property. Plus we're the first house on the cul-de-sac and they could get run over by a car turning onto our street and not seeing them come speeding down and into the street.

Our driveway is pretty steep so I know why they were doing it - it's fun! But they probably shouldn't be on our property without permission. I didn't tell the parents but might mention it sometime just so they know what their kids were doing. We're a pretty friendly street and these are generally good kids so except for the safety factor it didn't bother me too much. But still, I wouldn't want MY kid doing something like that on someone else's property without permission.

My lot backs to Truro Parish and one day I was home from work and noticed an army of kids jumping the fence that separates my yard from the path and tramping through my landscaping. I yelled out the back door for them to stop coming in my yard over the fence. Here is the deal. Broadlands, meaning all of us, had to pay to replace all that fencing because the kids jumping it over time eventually destroyed it.

So not only do you have the trespassing you also have the destruction of community property as well. Why is it so hard for these kids to just walk on the sidewalk? I tell you if no one is going to use them, then why do I have to clear them in the winter time?

Not trying to impress you with "coolness."

My experience with kids in the neighborhood is mostly the opposite of yours and have NEVER had one demonstrate behavior you claim to have had.
If you treat them with respect and speak to them as an adult, I'm usually pleased with the results.
    Maybe it's your delivery.

I start most of my conversations with "dude." As in "Dude, you might want to do that somewhere else so you don't get run over."

A "neighbor" calling the cops because we put cones out as a deterrent to speeding in our dead end part of the street and as a notice that kids are playing.

Really? It's that bad that you had to waste that cops' time? I'm sorry you couldn't drive your car RIGHTUP to the mailboxes like normal, cause walking from your house 5 doors down is quite the trek. And I'm sure just asking us to move a cone was a bit out of your comfort zone. I mean, your mail is way more important that the safety of the neighborhood.

Perhaps I can call the cops every time someone almost slams me cause they think they don't have to stop at THAT stop sign - I mean only a few people live past it right? Maybe I'll call the cops every time someone takes that turn on two wheels cause they don't feel they need to slow down. Maybe I'll lobby for speed bumps on our street - bet that would be WAY better than a couple cones and "caution" signs to catch your eye.

I have so much more to say but grrrrrrr just about covers it.

Saw a lady in a red minivan back her minivan in between the columns at HT (on the BoA side) to load her groceries.

No handicap tag or other observable infirmities.

AND, of course, left her shopping cart right beside one of the columns, most likley because walking it 3 feet to the cart corral was not an option.

    Sheeesh!

    Similar,

Some D-bag illegally parked his jeep in front of Dominos, went inside and left it running with the radio on as loud as possible. I almost reached in and grabbed the keys, and was gonna throw them on the roof, but the music sucked so badly as to ward me off. Next time though, I may just suffer through your Elton John, or whatever your listing to at the time.

Not to rain on your rant "but" aren't customers allowed to pull up to the store to load groceries?

Nope. The signs all along that plaza clearly indicate no stopping or standing.

That may be, however, as a curtesy, HT offers curbside loading, particularly when it's raining. It's not as if someone is parking on the curb and then running into the store to shop.
