Hi everyone! My husband and I just closed on a house in the Broadlands so I have been lurking a bit on these boards. I think it's about time actually posted something. So, does anyone here use a snow removal company? I'd like to set something up in the event of heavy snow that we can't do ourselves or if we happen to be out of town. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

You mean to remove the fun stuff from your driveway and such, or from the street? The streets are taken care of by the HOA. As a storm approaches, check these boards and see if there are teens with shovels or throwers advertising. If you're near the nature center, I can be bribed with rum

    And welcome to the neighborhood!!!

Thank you! I meant the driveway, sidewalk and walkway, so I will definitely check the boards (and stock up on rum!)

Not ALL streets are taken care of by the HOA. Single famly/private streets and townhouse streets are covered by the HOA. The balance of the streets(except the few still covered by the Developer) are covered by VDOT.

A list of the streets and whose responsbile can be found here....

I met one of the HOA plowers on a recent camping trip in the Smoky Mountains. I told him how much everyone here appreciated his work!

HOA does the private street NOT the pipestem. That is the property of the homeowners and thus treated just like any other driveway.

Ok, thanks Staci. Is it possible to work something out with the HOAs snow removal company to include snow removal for a pipestem, if the homeowners in that pipestem are willing to bear the additional expense? I haven't spoken to my neighbors but wanted to find out if this is even an option?

Residents are welcome to negotiate with the HOA's snow removal company, just please remember the agreement is between the homeowner and the contractor. If the contractor doesn't perform up to your expectations, this is not an HOA issue and the HOA is not responsible for the contractor's performance on the homeowner's property.

I will check with the company we use to see if he is able to take on individual residences. He does a great deal of commercial work and may not have the capacity to take on private contracts If he is agreeable I will post his contact information here.

thanks! Last year there were some resourceful teens with snowblowers roaming around as well. one thing you'll notice in this community Twinmama is that your neighbors are more likely than not to pitch in and clear snow together! Broadlands is awesome that way.

Welcome to the neighborhood and congrats on your new home!!

Totally agree....I never expected anyone to come over and pitch in this past awful snowstorm but several of my neighbors outdid themselves and offered to help me out...Really appreciated it and the guys rock...in fact, Broadlands rocks! Great neighborhood to live in. Couldn't have expected more!
