Dear Neighbors, We’d appreciate some expert Broadlands advice...

We’d like to find a landscaper to give us a "reasonable" estimate on a basic spring cleanup, edging and mulching the beds, and trimming the bushes, etc. Any recommendations please?

We've been using d and d lawn service for all our landscaping and mowing and have been really happy with the service and pricing. (703)658-0481 or http://www.ddlawnservice.com/

Thanks I'll have to give them a call. We had S & S Lawn Services out today. They left a flier in our mailbox. We got a quote for Spring Cleanup (removing leaves from beds, etc.), Mulching, Edging Beds, and Trim Shrubs, plus a long list of things that aren't included in the estimate... The estimate was $1350... I just can't believe they are serious. Do people actually pay this? My yard is in pretty decent shape... I mowed it this weekend and picked up much of the winter debris like branches, etc. Yes it can use the work, but for $1350, I think I'll keep on looking...

Just a little math... Mulch for the whole yard usually costs $80-$100, so subtract it and that leaves $1250 in labor. Even if it took 3 people, 5 hours to complete my yard, that's an incredible rate of $83/ hour per person. WOW... A person making $83/ hour working 40 hours a week for a year makes $172,640...

If he were to do my weekly Lawn Maintenance including a cut, edging and trimming that would be $160/ month with a $50 deposit.

We got mulch (black mulch - that still has its color now!), bush trimming, edging, and the general cleanup for $475 for a single family home last year. For pricing comparison...

I would give Irrigation and Lighting Services a shot. We have used them for alot things other than Irrigation and Lighting and always did a great job and I think they are a local Broadlands company. 571.333.2140

    flynnibus,

Who did you use? One set of neighbors just paid $1300 for their mulching/ cleaning (so there it is- the people willing to pay that much). Another paid $500 to have ten yards of mulch spread and clean-up/ trimming done (they had to but the mulch). I was quoted $500 to have seven yards of mulch spread (and I would still have to buy the mulch). I can do it in a day or two but don't want to. I would happily pay $475!

Boy Scouts charge a couple bucks a bag to spread... this was the first year we've bought from them and was happy with the service. No, doesn't include the trimming/edging tho', but a deal for what it is.

have to see if msflynn still has the name/contact

I don't know how much mulch we used.. but we are in a SFH with mulch beds around most of the house and 4-5 other trees.

    Thanks,
