Assault: Deputies learned two juvenile females received minor injuries when an unknown juvenile discharged bb’s from a possible Airsoft gun at them. The juvenile male was described as being a white male approximately 13 to 14-years-old. He was further described as having short dark hair and is 5' to 5’ 2” tall. He was wearing camouflage pants and shirt at the time of the incident. The family did not wish to pursue charges in the incident.

Some of the Air Soft guns are fully capable of piercing skin or killing birds and small animals. I have heard recently about a boy, about 13 y.o., in the Broadlands who has been killing quite a few birds I understand Animal Control did make contact with the family, but don’t know any further info. This really is disturbing to me. Anytime a person is shot, or an animal killed or maimed should be taken seriously. I hope other parents are aware of what their children are doing with the guns.

Any parent who lets their child use a Airsoft/BB gun unsupervised needs to have their head examined.

yeah, loudoun's restriction on anything remotely passable as a 'gun' is pretty strict in residential areas.

This law applies to bb guns (.177 Caliber or less) Air soft pellets are larger (.20)

Go ahead and plink those cans - but leave the bunny a*sses alone

I think its been modified since that version.. if you go through the codified version of Loudon's website - the ordinance is written much wider

Agree. A neighbor's kid discharged one off of their deck, randomly and in succession, and took down a bird.

Isn't that illegal for someone to "take down" a bird??? Hope it wasn't a protected species... Sad.

Well, you can imagine my surprise to actually see it happen since it appeared to be random. It was a grackle and I'm sure it was feeding nestlings.

That's just wrong! Did you call the cops? If you didn't, you should.

What Im afraid of next is that this kid could shoot at someone's dog or a duck or whatever out of boredom and for fun. This is scary and totally wrong. This kid should have his gun taken away and given a talk to on this. This isn't cool at all.

I called to complain and they dispatched the police but neither parent was home, so I don't know what became of it.

I saw some kids jay-walking the other day... their parents should be hauled in.

And your point is? How does your remark pertain to the subject of Air Soft Guns?

EXACTLY! And shooting at live things with the intent to kill is a little different than putting their own lives in danger by jaywalking.

Then perhaps you should talk to his parents instead of calling the cops at every little thing? Shooting a bird in the grand scheme of things is not too big of a deal. I'm pretty sure that this sort of thing falls under the "parental responsibility" section.

p.s. it isn't really "scary" either.

This sounds like a much more reasonable response than calling the cops.

And all this talk of "intent to kill" is a little far fetched... be careful what you read on the internet. An airsoft gun is only lethal if you use it as a baseball bat.

Well, based on the posts here, I suppose having a conversation with the parent would be the best approach. Oh, wait a minute - this is same neighbor with the volatile and bullying personality that will scream and rant in your face for any minor infraction. Gee, no thanks.

It's easy to dole out advice when you're on the other side of the fence.
