I am new to the community and was wondering if anyone knows of some good fireworks on July 4 near Broadlands. Ideally I'd like to be able to walk, but if not would like to go somewhere not too crowded so getting out isn't too tough as I have 2 small children.

There's IDA LEE park in Leesburg, but you have to get there early in order to get good seats close in. Not to mention be very patient when trying to leave after them.

So Ida Lee is pretty crowded, huh? If we don't care about being close, but want to see, does it matter when we get there? Also, how patient afterwards?

Has anyone ever been to Reston or Herndon or Ashburn Villages and has info on those (crowd size, how long it takes to leave, where to go for view)?

Our five-year-old wants to see the fireworks for the first time (always too scared before) and I'm trying to find a low-key event. I used to love Baker Park in Frederick but it's a trek and sounds like it's getting more and more crowded as well.

Ida Lee is always a great show. Other activities usually going on before the show. Nice slopping hill to sit on, and plenty of people to watch and celebrate with.

Getting out of there takes a little while, but really isn't that bad. Need to be patient, but they are very organized to handle the crowd.

There is a pdf on the Loudoun County website. The pdf is flagged as "New", but when you open the pdf, it's 2011 Fireworks, dated May 27, 2010. I checked a couple of the dates and they match up, so I think 2010 is just a typo:

    http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=810

Not on this list: Lansdowne Resort:

"July 3rd Fireworks > Join us Sunday, July 3rd for a savory backyard BBQ in Riverside Hearth featuring your favorite summertime grillers, decadent desserts and a frosty beverage. Then, head out on to the terraces of Lansdowne to enjoy some relaxing music, summer fair-style dessert vendors, a cash bar and, after dark, FIREWORKS!"
