Anyone know what's going on? Thats an awful lot of sirens and can hear a helicopter circling. Saw a sheriff's vehicle with 2 jet skis on the back go up Truro Parish. Maybe something happened at the reservoir?

Sounds serious. Hope everyone is okay.

I was at the reservoir when a father, son and dog flipped over in the canoe. I called 911. The 7 year old son had a life jacket on and made it out with the dog. The dad could not make it because the water was too cold and he was not wearing a life jacket. My heart is heavy for the little boy.

To add to the story, my brother and his friend were there and they jumped in and they saved the boy and my brother swam as far as he could into the icy water to save the father but could not swim far enough without drowning himself. Prayers go out to the family and boy.

I gave them both a hug. Two very brave boys.

That is awful, just awful, for that family. Sounds like heroic efforts were taken to try and help them. Heavy hearts, indeed.

If anyone gets any information about anything that can be done to help the family, please post it.

I went to the reservoir right after all this happened and heard just a bit of what happened. How incredibly tragic. I am so sorry for this family, and what a horrible experience for that little boy. My heart is with him. Thank you Shutterbug for calling 911, and to NeedMoney - please thank your brother & his friend. What great people for helping. I pulled up as they were putting the dog in the Animal Control van & offered to take him home myself, but they were bringing him to the family's residence. Sad day indeed - prayers to all those involved.

Please know that this wonderful man is a Broadlands resident. This is so tragic, I can't believe this happened today. Prayers to the family.

The father's body was recovered today. There will be a candlelight vigil tonight at 7pm on Heritage Oak Ct. (off Ridgeway).
Please come out to show your support for our Broadlands neighbors.

Tonight reminded just how wonderful and caring our Broadlands community is. Hundreds of people showing their support, even someone such as myself how never knew this man, but somehow felt compelled to be present at this vigil.

Broadlands, you never cease to amaze me.

I would like to echo the sentiment about the Broadlands community.....

My wife and I were very impressed with how the neighbors and friends came together to offer support. The family lived near us and we were very saddened to hear the tragic news. Our hearts went out to the family and to the boys.
