Saw this online at Washington Post.

    Ashburn Bloom Closing

Now two shopping centers without a main supermarket.

Is it time to get Whole Foods, Trader Joe's attention again?

I think this was a nice store with many items you could not get other places--alternate brands. It wasn't conveniently located so I didn't shop there often.

A sign at the Ashburn Bloom says it is closing by February 15. A clearance sale starts on January 18.

Was over that way last night and needed a couple items... They closed at 6pm. Guess they don't need to stay open later

Whole Foods is the most ridiculously priced grocery store I've ever been in and would never shop there. Trader Joe's on the other hand is wonderful! Doesn't really make sense though having either one in that location with so many Harris Teeters and a Global Food nearby. Who knows what they will turn that space into but another grocery store does not make sense.

IMO Whole Foods is about offering specialty items, like gluten free/wheat free foods, more whole and natural foods. Of course the price will be higher. Whole Foods is not an average food store. Shopping there will allow me to save gas money to Reston, save shipping from instead shopping on the internet, and avoiding more of the same old same old, like Harris Teeter, where I can never find much in the way of GF/WF.

Awhile back, when Bloom was located in Belmont Greene, they were about to close. I emailed Whole Foods and asked directly if this location would be considered. I was told flat out NO because there were two Wegmans so closeby. Same situation with the current Ashburn location.

So we are back to Trader Joes. I wish!!!!

I dont understand the love affair with global foods.....It looks kind of "un-clean" - I wouldnt compare it in any way to shopping at Whole Foods, Wegmans, HT, or for that matter Trader Joes....

Next time you travel to Reston, stop at MOM's in the KMart Plaza on Eldon. They carry a good variety of gluten free foods.

I wouldn't call it a love affair with Global, but more of a great local grocery with 'Fresh' meat & veggies, a nice variety of international food and great prices on everything. There is nothing unclean about it.

Don't get me wrong...I love Wegmans! but I don't buy meat at Wegmans anymore except for one type of their sausages that I love.

By they way, I have purchased rotten or 'bug infested' items at just about every grocery store in the area, most recently at the Southern Walk Harris Teeter, Safeway, and Wegmans. Giant Food and Global Foods still have 100% track record with me.

I've never purchased bug infested items from any grocery store ever.

The only nasty things I have seen in grocery stores were some moldy tortillas a couple of years ago at Harris Teeter in Southern Walk (immediately removed and a manager had three people combing over that department), a jar of black mayonnaise at the Food Lion in Charlottesville VA almost 20 years ago (no response) and an actual RAT running about in the Costco in Sterling about three years ago (again, no response).

I got cauliflower with bugs in it from the Southern Walk Harris Teeter and bad tilapia from Wegmans. Both were cooked the same day I bought them.

I don't remember, but I remember seeing some black spots on it prior to cooking and didn't think much of it. After steaming we began to eat it and there was an unusual 'crunch'. I looked really closely and saw the black spots had legs. It was quite disgusting.

I don't know why I'm talking about this since it has nothing to do with Bloom or Global. The fact is no grocery store can guarantee perfect products. I'm a little sad the Bloom is closing, but at the same time I'm so glad Global is not far away. I can walk to either location. I wonder what might go into the old Bloom location?

I've never had bugs like that. I would say, from appearances, there's a better chance to get bugs from Global then elsewhere. Just sayin'.

Why not? Tilapia is great. I just won't ever buy it at Wegmans again.

We are gluten-free in our house due to celiac. I do all our GF-specific shopping at Wegmans, can never find what we need in HT or Giant. We can do the naturally GF items anywhere, including Costco. I do like some of the WF items better but it's not worth the cost or the effort to get over there.

I just heard a new rumor that Trader Joe's will take the old Bloom space near Manhattan Pizzeria. Supposedly another business in that center told someone it was. Might be just a rumor but thought I'd share anyway.
