It is unfortuate that we are loosing another great local restaurant. Not only is their food fantastic, but the service is also - Jerry and Nikki especially make you feel so welcomed the minute they see you walking up to the restuarant from the parking lot. I think their last day open is Sunday, February 26th. Please come out and support them and send them out in style.

    Where did you hear this?

This same 'announcement' was made a few months ago and it turned out to be a bad hoax...

Spoke to an employee directly. Also, my neighbor and my cousin both picked up take-out orders on 2 separate occassions earlier in the week and they were also told.

We do pick-up from Anothai weekly and my husband works with one of the owners. Definitely true, we knew it was coming, just not so soon. They will be missed!

After 5 years of enduring one of the worst economic environment, Anothai finally has to give up this fight. We will be closing Anothai on Sunday, Feb. 26th at 3pm. We have a private dinner at 4pm so we won't allow any walk-in customers for dining room; however takeout and delivery orders on Sunday are still available. We would like to thank each and every one of you who has supported us and welcome us into your life. You have made these 5 brutal years less painful and more memorable. We are taking with us good memories and friendships. Best wishes to all of you.

    Lalida, Jerry and Nikki

Yes, this is a truly local establishment and it will be missed. Who's gonna make my volcano chicken now?

I think that one closed last year, if I'm not mistaken.

It will be interesting to see what they do with this space....with Flatbread and now Anothai gone there is a lot of open real estate. My hope is that they get tenants quick but wisely. The Thai food game is super competitive but look at a place like Parallel or Bonefish these places are packed with people....I dont know why they were but Anothai wasnt but there must be something to it

So much for the spontaneous flash mob.

I am honestly surprised that they were able to survive this long and it is a real credit to the owners for all the time, work and money they put into it. It is always so sad to see small local business close which unfortunately has happened so often in this area over the last decade. It is not a question now of if an establishment will close, but rather when they will close.

So many of the shopping centers in Brambleton/Broadlands have so much vacant space that it is actually kind of depressing going to them. The Broadlands Marketplace Center is a very odd layout for a shopping center and the restaurants aren't close to any of the other stores. It also isn't that close to too much pedestrian traffic (like Brambleton is). We went to Glory Days on Friday night and it was probably 1/2 full at the peak time. Anothai was never crowded, the Flatbread place closed, Taco Bell never seems to be crowded and only the McDonalds seems to be doing well. There is almost never a crowd in the Harris Teeter when I've gone there. With the new Shops at Moorefield Village center (and another HT) opening this year that will surely draw some of the customers of the places in the Broadlands Marketplace. I am afraid we'll continue to see stores there close until some of the planned commercial development in the area along with the GMU campus is built up (does anyone know the timeline for the GMU campus?).

When Flatbread closed Janice point blank said it was due to the continuing lack of businesses being built in the area. We can't support 15 shopping centers worth of restaurants on a family dinner crowd alone.

Yep. And many Broadlands residents have in the past balked at large businesses moving into our area. These businesses cannot survive with residential business alone; they need more customers from 'outside' the community that large commercial businesses bring with them. The 'lunch crowd' effect alone that these commercial businesses would bring could be enough to keep many of these smaller businesses afloat.

Personally, I believe that pushing away these large businesses and having so many vacant spaces in our commercial plazas as a result, has a far greater impact on our home prices than people realize. Having amenities nearby and a flourishing business community adds a lot of value. What I find ironic are that some of the same people complaining about businesses closing, and vacant spaces in our plazas are some of the same people who fought vigorously against some of these large commercial businesses who wanted to come to our community and would have helped these smaller businesses survive. Not pointing fingers at anyone specifically, just putting out some food for thought. If you want smaller, family-run businesses to survive in our community, you need to allow for a growing customer-base. That's what some of these larger commercial businesses would bring to our community...

I'm curious, other than the hospital what other large businesses wanted to locate here?
