Radon? How Much Do You Know About It?

MYTH: Radon affects only certain kinds of homes.

I know that i have it...bad. About 5x+ the limit.

 

My mother's friend had her granite counter tops professionally tested and the readings were off the charts. She had them ripped out because her pregnant daughter was spending a lot of time at her house. They also had a system installed to mitigate the gas coming in the basement level. I'm from NH (the granite state) and I'll take quartz or corian over granite anyday.

For most home owner it cost less than $1000 to have a simple ventilation system installed that will get rid of it.

 

Can anyone recommend a reputable radon testing company?

 

I only did a home test from here for $15: http://sosradon.org/ (which i found off of some VA gov website somewhere).

So then my next step is to either pay $150-200 for a professional test (most home inspectors can do it) or pay $550-650 to have a system put in that is guaranteed to get you below 4. I'm just planning on putting in the system I think. Not worth risking the family.

(Note: i have a partial passive system already installed by the builder which was why its a little lower price than quoted above)
